On this week's episode of ONCE UPON A TIME, we gained further insight to the Snow Queen's past and her intentions for Storybrooke. While searching for some insight on the Snow Queen's arrival in Storybrooke, Emma comes across pictures of herself and the Snow Queen chatting as if they were old friends. At the same time, Regina works to undo the ice spell the Snow Queen cast on Marion, Robin Hood's wife. She turns to the Magic Mirror for help, who promises to guide her to the Snow Queen's hiding place. On the way, Regina and Emma cross paths in their mutual journeys to the Queen's lair and decide to work together. When a snowstorm emerges, Regina realizes that the Magic Mirror has betrayed her by leading her into the Snow Queen's trap- a gigantic warrior monster! Regina and Emma use their magic to defeat the creature, but are soon greeted by the Snow Queen. Unfortunately, the Queen steals Regina's Magic Mirror, hence taking away much of her power. The Queen frees the Magic Mirror from captivity, and reveals that she will be using the mirror's dark magic in her 'plans', which apparently center around finding a family that loves her.

In a flashback to Emma's childhood, we saw her meet a new friend named Lily. The two girls bond over their similar upbringings in the foster care system, and decide to squat the same house together. But when Lily's father shows up looking for her, Emma realizes that Lily has been lying about her life; she isn't homeless, and has a family of her own. Though Lily tries to explain that she hates her home life and feels like no one loves her, Emma does not forgive her.

In the closing moments of the episode, Emma watches a video tape from her time with Lily. But towards the end of the tape, there's a scene from a orphanage that Emma cannot recall. The final image on the tape is of the Snow Queen's face- apparently, she was working in the orphanage that Emma lived in for a time. I'm speculating that the Snow Queen disguised herself as Lily to get close to Emma, and then worked in Emma's orphanage for the same reason. But why is she so drawn to Emma? And what made her erase all of Emma's memories of her?

The Snow Queen's intentions are starting to become clear. Apparently, she is working to build a family for herself, but I can't imagine how destroying Storybrooke would do that. And considering her claim to be Elsa's aunt, doesn't she already have a family in Arendelle? Nevertheless, she's definitely evil to her core, but at least we were able to see a more human side of her tonight.

I was a tad upset we didn't get to see a ton of Rumpelstiltskin and Henry this week. I'm hoping we get a few scenes between those two next week, because I'm dying to see how Henry is fending as Rumpel's apprentice! If there's any evidence of the person behind the 'Once Upon a Time' book, it's got to be in Rumpel's pawn shop.

We saw a lot of fantastic character development between Emma and Regina tonight. The pair have been on the rocks since the finale of last season due to Emma bringing Robin Hood's wife back from the dead, and it was nice to see their conflicts addressed. It took a bit of bickering, but Emma admitted that she wanted to make up with Regina not out of guilt, but out of friendship. After all, Emma and Regina have a lot more in common than they realize; they're both doing everything they can to protect their families and Storybrooke in general, and would be more productive as allies than enemies.

Judging by the preview for next week, it looks like Anna makes it to Storybrooke! But it seems she and Belle find themselves in a life-or-death situation most likely caused by the Snow Queen. Anna probably seeks out the Snow Queen to find out more about their family history, and the meeting backfires on her. But how does she even get to Storybrooke in the first place?

She'd need magic, meaning she must have made a deal with someone in power- who only knows who or what that is!

Dying to know what the Snow Queen has in store for the residents of Storybrooke? Keep tuning in to ONCE UPON A TIME, Sundays 8PM EST on ABC!
