ON YOUR FEET's Ana Villafane Nabs Female Lead in New CBS Comedy

Deadline reports that Ana Villafañe, star of Broadway's ON YOUR FEET!, will take on the lead female role in CBS's HISTORY OF THEM. The high-profile project is described as a multi-camera/hybrid comedy project from Gloria Calderon Kellett. ONE DAY AT A TIME's Pam Fryman will serve as director/executive producer. The show is expected to officially be picked up to pilot shortly.

Written by Kellett, the semi-autobiographical show is "a multi-cultural romantic comedy about how two friends, Luna (Villafañe) and Adam, fell in love, narrated by their future daughter, using the couple's social media from present-day (Instagram/Twitter/Facebook) as a guide."

Villafañe's character Luna is described as "smart and spunky". Alongside her parents, she runs a successful Latinx food truck business, yet "she struggles with what she wants and doesn't feel like a fully-fledged grown up yet. She wants to find love and figure out who she is separate from her very tight-knit family, and her journey will be full of bumps and bruises as she navigates the rest of her twenties."

Villafañe made her Broadway debut as Gloria Estefan in the hit musical ON YOUR FEET! and earned the 2016 Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut Performance. Her film credits include the female lead in MAX STEEL. She also starred in the Hulu original series SOUTH BEACH.
