ODYSSEO 3D will make its world debut at the 68th Cannes Film Festival as part of the Marché du Film, one of the most important events of the film industry where accredited journalists and over 10,000 professionals of the seventh art gather every year. Directed by Sung-Bok « Myron » JUNG and produced by Fabulous, a Korean production company specializing in the production of content, ODYSSEO 3D is the first live show to have been shot in both 3D and 4K resolution for the purpose of film distribution and with specific and innovative technical features. A happy mix of technology and lyricism, ODYSSEO 3D also presents exclusive interviews and moments of pure emotion with the artists and creators of the show.
ODYSSEO 3D, shot entirely in 4K resolution, required no less than 14 Sony F55 cameras paired on 3D rigs which were themselves installed on special equipment like Super Techno Cranes and Aerial Cable Cams, allowing the capture of every possible angle. A technology that generates a remarkable aesthetic quality, 4K refers to the definition of the digital image: specifically, the number of
PIXELS of the image that are 4096 wide by 2160 in height. This large amount of
PIXELS equals clearer and more detailed images, and thanks to the combination of 3D and 4K, the final effect is one of exceptional realism. In fact, ODYSSEO 3D has a resolution and a clarity superior to Avatar, the James Cameron production that was shot in 2K. The shooting of ODYSSEO 3D took place in Denver, Colorado last October and was made possible through the work of nearly 200 people from Korea, France and the United States.
With a running time of 1 hour and 46 minutes, the film will be screened at Cannes on May 14 at 1:30pm. 9ers Entertainment, a Korean company hired by Fabulous, is currently meeting with potential distributors to secure distribution agreements. As more cinemas are becoming equipped with projectors and screens which support 4K resolution, the film will soon be released in Korea and Vietnam, and negotiations are underway with distributors in Europe, Canada, China and the United States.
Odysseo ScreenX: at the forefront of technology
Alongside ODYSSEO 3D, another innovative project is currently under development, ODYSSEO ScreenX. A new and very promising technology, ScreenX is the first multi-projection system in the world designed for movie theaters, which gives moviegoers the impression of being submerged in the action. Developed by CGV, the largest distributor and cinema owner in Korea and belonging to the CJ Group, ScreenX is a 3-screen format where visual content is projected on the side walls of cinemas as well.
To date, this type of movie theater has mainly shown advertisements, short films and movie trailers. This ambitious project marks the first filming of a show in ScreenX. To meet the technical requirements of ScreenX, filming in Denver was planned accordingly with a 3-camera rig developed and dedicated specifically to this format. The project will be finalized by the end of the month. There are currently 44 ScreenX complexes in Korea, with a total of 75 theaters. ScreenX movie theaters are currently under construction in several Asian countries, including Thailand and Vietnam, while the only ScreenX in North America is located in Los Angeles, California.
