NBC Sports presents a top-25 clash this Saturday in primetime on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET featuring a pair of historic COLLEGE FOOTBALL programs, when the No. 24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-0) host the No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs (1-0) in just the second-ever meeting between the two schools. Notre Dame moved into the AP Top 25 this week following a 49-16 win in its home opener against Temple on Sept. 2. Fighting Irish QB Brandon Wimbush threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 106 yards and another score in his first collegiate start. Wimbush was one of three players on the Notre Dame offense to rush for over 100 yards (Josh Adams and Dexter Williams), the first time three Irish players eclipsed the century mark on the ground since at least 1954.
Georgia defeated Appalachian State by a score of 31-10 last Saturday in Athens. The Bulldogs were led offensively by freshman QB Jake Fromm, who replaced injured QB Jacob Eason late in the first quarter, and threw for 143 yards and a touchdown in his collegiate debut. Fromm will make his first-ever start for the Bulldogs this weekend in South Bend.
Saturday's primetime matchup on
NBC marks just the second-ever game between Notre Dame and Georgia. Their only meeting came in the 1981 Sugar Bowl, when No. 1 ranked Georgia defeated No. 7 Notre Dame by a score of 17-10 to finish the season undefeated and win the national championship. Herschel Walker rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the game for the Bulldogs.
