Mount Kisco's Northern Westchester Hospital and Sleepy Hollow's Phelps Hospital, proud members of Northwell Health, have become sponsors of the Jacob Burns Film Center's (JBFC) Creative Culture program and a new ongoing series, STEM on Screen.

Creative Culture is a fellowship and residency program that fosters a diverse community for filmmakers in the region, across the country, and around the world. Donor-funded fellowships and residencies help to ensure that people from every economic background have access to this meaningful experience. Thanks to this new sponsorship, the JBFC is offering a Northwell Health and Wellness Fellowship this fall. The fellowship is open to applicants proposing a short film dealing with issues surrounding health and wellness.

The Northwell Health and Wellness fellow will have five months to produce their short film in a collaborative community that meets for weekly seminars and critiques. In addition to a stipend, the fellow will receive access to production equipment, postproduction workspace, mentorship, and JBFC's industry network.

"Phelps is a proud sponsor of the Jacob Burns Film Center, and an enthusiastic supporter of the work Jacob Burns does in our community," said Daniel Blum, President and CEO of Phelps Hospital. "For many years, Phelps and Jacob Burns have shared common elements of mission. We both exist to improve the lives of the people who live in our community. We both work toward common goals of creating a healthier and more culturally enriched community through educational outreach and intellectually stimulating events."

"We are proud and honored to have our community hospitals, Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Hospital as partners in our effort to champion diverse stories and storytellers," said Sean Weiner, JBFC Director of Creative Culture. "We are especially excited to offer a fellowship to an emerging filmmaker who is interested in exploring health and wellness."

"Northern Westchester Hospital is extremely proud to partner with the Jacob Burns Film Center as a sponsor of two innovative and forward-thinking programs. Film brings people together for a shared experience and contributes to healthy dialogue. We are pleased to have this opportunity to advance the creative use of film to educate, inspire and promote health and wellness in our communities. As part of Northwell Health, it is gratifying to embark on this journey together with Phelps Hospital," said Joel Seligman, President & CEO, Northern Westchester Hospital.

Applications for the Northwell Health and Wellness Fellowship are being accepted through July 1, 2018. People interested in learning more about Creative Culture or applying for a fellowship should go to burnsfilmcenter.org.

The second component of the sponsorship is STEM on Screen, a new series of current, classic, and documentary films with lively conversations by notable figures from the world of science, medicine, mathematics, and technology. The series, which will feature special film programs throughout the year, will launch in October 2018.

"This exciting new series will inform and engage people about the Science of everyday living, from health and climate change to breakthroughs that change our understanding of the world around us," said Brian Ackerman, JBFC Director of Programming. "It is wonderful to have local partners join us on such a global discovery. We look forward to illuminating and inspiring our community together."
