Nominees Announced for the 2016 LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS on Telemundo

Telemundo announced today the nominees for the second annual "Latin American Music Awards" (Latin AMAs). Yandel and Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizarraga lead with six nods each; Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias follow closely with five nominations; while J Balvin andLos Plebes del Rancho de Ariel Camacho have four nominations each. The network also announced that songstress, TV host and actress Lucero will return to host the second annual awards ceremony and will perform on the extended three-hour awards show. Produced by Telemundo and SOMOS Productions, the event will broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA, at 8pm/7c on Thursday, October 6, 2016, and will be preceded by the red carpet pre-show "La Alfombra de Latin AMAs" at 7pm/6c.

As the world continues to mourn the passing of beloved Latin music icon Juan Gabriel, Telemundo will pay homage to the life of the Mexican superstar, songwriter and singer. In addition, the network's initial star-studded line-up of performers includes Latin music's newest phenomenon and first-time nomineeCNCO, Cuba's most successful rhythmic duo and three-time nominee Gente de Zona, Mexican regional singer and music producer Gerardo Ortiz, Mexican iconic pop duo and three-time nominee Jesse & Joy,bachata crossover singer and two-time nominee Prince Royce, salsa music icon and two-time nomineeVictor Manuelle and bilingual pop rock band from Spain Dvicio.

Starting today at 3PM ET/2c, until September 27 at 3PM ET/2c, fans from the United States and Puerto Rico are able to place their vote online at www.LatinAMAs.com/vota, and fans worldwide can vote via Twitter by posting a tweet that contains first and last name of the nominee, category and the hashtag #LatinAMAs.

Top nominees this year include Puerto Rican urban music singer Yandel, who is up for six awards including Favorite Artist-Urban. His album "Dangerous" earned two nominations including Album of the Year and Favorite Album-Urban; the song "Encantadora" is nominated for Song of the Year and Favorite Song-Urban; while his collaboration with Maluma "El Perdedor" competes for Favorite Collaboration.

Chart-topping Regional Mexican group Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizarraga has six nominations, including Artist of the Year and Favorite Duo or Group, Regional Mexican; its album "Que Bendicion" earned two nominations for Album of the Year and Favorite Album-Regional Mexican; while the song "Solo con Verte" vies for two awards: Song of the Year and Favorite Song-Regional Mexican.

Latin urban music singer Nicky Jam earned five nominations including Artist of the Year and Favorite Artist-Urban; his song "Hasta El Amanecer" competes for Song of the Year and Favorite Song-Urban; "Te Busco" featuring Cosculluela vies for Favorite Collaboration. Also a five-time nominee, International superstar Enrique Iglesias competes for Artist of the Year and Favorite Male Artist-Pop/Rock; his song "Duele El Corazón" featuring Wisin is nominated for Song of the Year, Favorite Song-Pop/Rock andFavorite Collaboration. Colombian Urban music sensation J Balvin is a four-time nominee competing forArtist of the Year and Favorite Artist-Urban; his song "Ginza" vies for Song of the Year and Favorite Song-Urban. Also a four-time nominee, Los Plebes del Rancho de Ariel Camacho is up for Artist of the Yearand Favorite Duo or Group-Regional Mexican; its album "Recuerden mi Estilo" competes for Album of the Year and Favorite Album-Regional Mexican.

Artists nominated for three awards include: the late Juan Gabriel, Alvaro Soler, CNCO, Gente de Zona, Jesse & Joy and Wisin. Those with two nominations are Adriel Favela, Banda Clave Nueva de Max Peraza, Drake, Gloria Trevi, Jacob Forever, Jay Ruiz, Julión Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda, Justin Bieber, Maluma, Pitbull, Prince Royce, Sofia Reyes and Victor Manuelle. Born in Mexico City, Lucero has sold more than 27 million records worldwide and is recognized in Latin America and Mexico as "La Novia de America" (America's sweetheart). Lucero gained her first regular high-profile role in a popular children's show in Mexico City called "Alegrias de Mediodia" at the early age of 10. Since then, she has released a series of successful albums and many of her songs have topped music charts across the world. As an actress, she received her first leading role in the film "Coqueta" and went on to film a total of seven movies and star in multiple telenovelas including "Alborada," which earned her an Emmy Award. Leading Spanish-language publication "People en Español" named her the "Queen of Telenovelas" in its 2013 "50 Most Beautiful People" issue.

The "Latin American Music Awards" pays tribute to today's most influential and iconic Latin artists, as voted by the fans in the traditional format of the "American Music Awards," the world's biggest fan-voted award show. For the second groundbreaking year, the show will feature performances by chart-topping talent in both English and Spanish and will give fans from the U.S. and Puerto Rico the chance to vote on world class artists. The Latin AMAs will honor artists in the genres of Pop/Rock, Regional Mexican, Urban, and Tropical, as well as categories for Favorite Crossover Artist, Favorite Streaming Song, Favorite Collaboration, New Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, among others.
