According to Us Weekly, pop star Nicki Minaj has reportedly been named the new judge on FOX's AMERICAN IDOL. The singer will join newcomer Mariah Carey at the judge's panel when the show returns next season.
Two sources have confirmed the news to Us Weekly exclusively. Revealed one insider, "I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening." A second source says the rapper is "100% confirmed to judge American Idol."
Representatives for the network and Minaj have not commented on the report.
Minaj, who toured with Britney Spears througout 2011, begins her own world tour on October 21st in England. Her latest album, 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded', debuted at No. 1 this spring and included the two Top 10 singles, "Starships" and "Pound the Alarm."
Superstar Mariah Carey was confirmed as a new Idol judge last month. In a statement to the press, the five-time Grammy Award-winner said, "as a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol. I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."
Rumors that Nick Jonas may possibly take the place of long-time Idol judge Randy Jackson, have been circulating since July. Jackson has revealed that he would like to take on a mentoring role in the upcoming season.
Past American Idol judges have included Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and the most recent ship jumpers, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Ryan Seacrest will once again serve as the show's host when Idol returns for Season 12 this winter.
