Community-based design company Threadless.com and Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids, have geared up for a brand-new design challenge featuring global pop culture icon SpongeBob SquarePants. Kicked off yesterday, The Challenge calls on artists from around the world to reimagine and design their best interpretation of SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends. Designs can be submitted electronically at Threadless.com/SpongeBob until May 30; and submissions will be voted on by Threadless' active global community of 2.5 million members through June 6.
This marks the second design challenge collaboration between Threadless and Nickelodeon. The first challenge was held in March themed to the hit CG-animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which received a record-breaking number of submissions - more than 1,000 designs.
One grand prize winner will receive a $2500 cash prize, a $500 Threadless.com gift certificate, a trip to
Universal Studios Hollywood including a stipend for flights and hotel, a limited-edition signed SpongeBob animation cell and vinyl figures, and an invitation to participate in the SpongeBob Art Tribute Show. Two runners up will also receive invitations to participate in the SpongeBob Art Tribute Show. An additional scoring challenge will be held, offering users who vote on submissions the chance to win SpongeBob animation cells and vinyl figurines.
In addition to the t-shirt design challenge,
Nickelodeon recently launched a global short film competition, SpongeBob SquareShorts, which gives fans the opportunity to interact with the brand like never before. Submissions will be accepted at SpongeBobSquareShorts.com through June 28.
