NewFilmmakers is a unique Screening Series that gives new filmmakers the opportunity to screen their films in New York, Los Angeles, and Online. On Tuesday, August 19th, NewFilmmakers NY presents two Short Film Programs and the new feature LA VIE NOUS APPARTIENT.

6:00 PM First Short Film Program Coming Of Age Films

Simone Smith RED (2012, 5 minutes, video)
A psychological hue which resembles that of blood evoked in the human observer.

Caroline M. Stucky PAPER BOATS (2014, 9 minutes, video)
A boy's fear of time passing by.

Vivian Chen SIDEWALK (2012, 8 minutes)
A lonely, bullied girl creates an imaginary friend.

Joseph Pedi BACHELORESS (2013, 16 minutes)
A recent college dropout returns home with a gift for her older sister.

Laramie Dennis ALL AGES (2010, 11 minutes)
17-year-old Dylan and her best friend Jodi crash a party, desperate to meet the lead guitarist from their favorite local band.

Hsaio-Shu Chang DEAD LETTERS (2013, 13 minutes)
A forty-five-year old post office worker, Sam, who hoods at the dead letter department, finally delivers a photograph that changes an elderly woman's life and unexpectedly changes him.

7:15 PM Second Short Film Program

Nicholas Giuricich PAPER ANIMALS (2013, 8 minutes)
Colin is a timid, creative young man working for his mother whom he has a strained relationship with. He longs to quit and live his life as an artist but cannot muster up the courage to confront his domineering mother.

A D Cooper THE VIEW FROM THE WINDOW (2012, 11 minutes)
After a catastrophic car accident, Martin ends up in hospital next to the elderly Harold. Stuck staring at the ceiling with his head in a neck brace, Martin is at first infuriated by Harold's endless chit chat, but soon comes to appreciate Harold's view.

Brittany Winderman CORRELATED DEBRIS (2013, 14 minutes)
Correlated Debris is a film about accepting change and moving forward in life. Multiple people are attached to a cafe and this inevitably leads them to helping each other transition to greater things.

Joe DiCanio ANAMNESIS (2014, 32 minutes)
A man struggles to gather photos, videos and trinkets for his memory stricken wife and put them into a computer/hard drive with an algorithm to bring her memory back.

8:45 PM Feature Presentation

Daniel Pfeffer MILK AND HONEY (2013, 23 minutes)

In this coming of age tale, Maya, an orphaned Puerto Rican girl is forced to live in an abusive foster home. On the morning of her fifteenth birthday, her stepbrother Johnny wakes her up to sexual assault, she stops him from raping her, but in utter fear she decides to pack her bags and leave her cursed state behind.

Alex Lee LA VIE NOUS APPARTIENT (2014, 88 minutes)

Two students, Sarah and Philip, after meeting online develop a tragic plan to end their lives. They decide to meet and hike into the mountains where they would jump off a cliff together. They share their thoughts and struggles, looking into enduring issues about family, depression and fulfillment, while also touching upon the unique issues of growing up in the modern world.

NewFilmmakers screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street. NewFilmmakers LA screens at the AT&T Center, 1139 S Hill Street, and has become a leading showcase for new films in Hollywood.
