On Tuesday, August 27th, NewFilmmakers presents films from Brooklyn and on Wednesday, August 28th, NewFilmmakers celebrates Labour Day.

Tuesday, August 27th
6:00 PM Documentary Series

Max Kutner AT THE CORNER OF 3RD AND 3RD (2013, 21 minutes)
The film explores the evolving character of Gowanus, Brooklyn and the mysterious New York and Long Island Coignet Stone Company Building.

Ardalan Keramati DAY (2013, 41 minutes)
Two twenty-something roommates (JT and Patrick Holt) start The Day in their Queens apartment (Kew Gardens) and spend the afternoon in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area of Brooklyn.

Nir Yaniv MICROTIME (2013, 15 minutes)
Bernie Eckstein, a young physics PhD student, is about to test the time machine he has built out of the microwave oven in his kitchen. He sets a camera to document the experiment - but it takes him some time to realize that he needs to remove the lens cover.

Takahisa Shiraishi SALOME (2013, 6 minutes)
The film Salome is an experimental film based on the theatre play 'Salome' written by Oscar Wilde, visualizing the story of Salome with very minimalistic visual style. This visual style is strongly inspired by Beardsley's illustrations.

Yunyi Yi MAYA (NOT THAT) (2012, 7 minutes)
Maya (not that) creates a narrative based on a multicultural understanding of a name. The title of this video is borrowed from the real name of the main character, Maya Jeffereis.

jan vardoen WORKING STIFF (2013, 9 minutes)
Our hero, the working stiff, leaves for work. His life is a daily uphill struggle. Arriving at work he clocks in, enters his office and prepares for his shift.

8:00 PM First Feature Presentation
John McCabe AMERICAN FINANCIAL (2012, 17 minutes)

A film about Tim. After the suicide death of 99% activist and previous branch manager Herbert Spencer, nice guy - Tim is un-expectantly promoted by William Howell -corporate big wig and vice president of American Financial - one of the few mortgage banking firms that survived the real estate crash of 2008 and yet is still under investigation by consumer rights activists and the 99% movement.

Phillip Gara OCCUPY CENTRAL PARK (2012, 90 minutes)
Occupy Central Park follows a 19-year-old student's efforts to organize a large Occupy Wall Street benefit concert in Central Park at the height of the OWS movement in the fall of 2011.

Odin Ozdil CALIFORNIA WINTER (2012, 82 minutes)

In 2005 Clara Morales begins a rising career in real estate by encouraging sub-prime loans to her clients in order to afford houses that might be above their means. Loans that she did not fully understand.
