NewFilmmakers of New York will host the Middle East and NewLatino groups for a night of special programs on Wednesday, September 30. Beginning at 6:00pm, the NewFilmmakers will present the Middle East Filmmakers Series curated by Monier. At 8:00pm, they will present a NewLatino short film series.
The Middle East Filmmakers Series will feature nine Middle Eastern films. The films presented will include "The Cannibal Twins" by Moniere, "The Musician of the Turkish Community" by Selcuk Oksuzoglu, "Imprecation" by Moniere, "Zaak" by Ismail Farhane, "Chez Moi/At Home" by Ismail Farhane & Nalini Warriar, "Silence on Sex-Prime" by Ismail Farhane, "Citizen of Arts" by Amina Ouchater, "Amrika" by Moniere, and "The Carpet Weavers" by Masoud Farand. Moniere will curate the night of films.
The 8:00pm series will host NewLatino the short films ""Aranceles" by Melo Viana, "Payasos" by Marianela Vega Oroza, and "Sebastian" by Gabriella Kessler.
The feature presentation will be "90 Minutes: The World Cup of New York" by director Ab Winsemius. "90 Minutes: The World Cup of New York" centers around New York City as home to 2.8 million immigrants from 185 different countries. Every four years 32 of those countries play in the World Cup. In 2006 32 New York soccer fans from the 32 participating countries were followed as they experience the World Cup in the city.
The night of films will be held at Anthology Film Archives and doors will open at 5:30pm. Admission for the event is $6.00.
