As charges of sexual misconduct seem to arise on a daily basis these days, a new web site called Rotten Apples may be just the thing that movie goers and TV viewers need in these troubled times.
According to The New York Times, the site, which launched on Tuesday, features a searchable database that lets users know which films or television shows are connected to those accused of sexual harassment. Explains website creator Tal Wagman, "It's an easy way to single out those individuals."
The site features a search bar in which users can enter the name of a television show or movie. They will then learn if the show or film "has known affiliation to anyone with allegations of sexual misconduct against them." They may also view a list of individuals involved in a project who have been accused of misconduct, along with their role in the production. Each result is linked to a news article about the accusations.Says Wagman, "We're definitely not advocating for boycotting anyone's films." Instead, the goal of the site is to provide people with the information they need to make "ethical media consumption decisions."
