Netflix Original Series REBOOT Teams Up with Green Mouse Academy to Inspire Kids to Code Image

Netflix Original Series ReBoot: The Guardian Code and Green Mouse Academy, a leader in technology arts programs for STEAM initiatives across the US, are teaming up to inspire kids to learn to code as they practice 21st Century skills.

Through the show's awe-inspiring animation, character-driven stories, humour, and adrenaline pumping action, the series brings to life the parallels between the real world and the vast cyberworld that exists behind the screens of today's tech-driven kids. Throughout the storylines and character interactions are examples of kids being empowered by technology, a passion of the show's creator, Michael Hefferon.

"I wanted to create an engaging show not only entertaining for kids to watch but a catalyst to spark interest in technology in a way that's relatable to them" says Hefferon, "I want to inspire kid's creativity and demonstrate the power of learning to code. The partnership with Green Mouse Academy is a wonderful way to introduce the crucial role that 21stCentury skills play in the entertainment industry."

Shane Vander Kooi, founder of Green Mouse Academy, will be announcing the collaboration on September 8th during the FIRST® Launch event being held at the KENNEDY Space Center to celebrate the global FIRST® robotics season kickoff. FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is the world's largest youth-serving nonprofit, advancing STEM and engaging more than 575,000 students this season.

"I'm really excited about this collaboration" said Vander Kooi. "Learning to code plays a big part in all of our programs and especially in robotics. Through their mission of empowering kids, ReBoot: The Guardian Code is supporting organizations like ours that work within the formal and informal education space," said Vander Kooi.

"The show's cast of relatable characters [Guardians] demonstrate teamwork while having to work out their unique differences as they tackle various challenges and missions using today's technology. The show is both entertaining and illustrative of what we are hoping to see our students practice in real life."

"ReBoot: TGC is planning to expand their message by focusing on partnerships with established after-school and extended learning programs like ours and we hope to develop coding classes utilizing the visual content, storylines and game app associated with the show" concluded Vander Kooi.

About the series:

ReBoot: The Guardian Code follows the adventures of four average teenagers who, unbeknownst to them, have been chosen to be the next generation Guardians of Cyberspace. With the help of Vera, a quirky and endearing artificially intelligent bio-constructed teenage girl, the kids bravely navigate the dangers lurking in cyberspace as they battle against an evil mastermind wreaking havoc known as the Sourcerer. Along with adrenaline pumping action, humor and some dance moves, the values of friendship, teamwork, and right versus wrong are woven through the storylines of four relatable characters: the leader, the jock, the nerd, the social maven and a girl who learns what it's like to be human.

The show embodies the best of visual storytelling and technology as the first television series to create visually stunning animation using the UNREAL Game Engine with 4K resolution. Adding to the 360-degree experience are the experiential videos that transport viewers into the locations where all the cyberspace action happens and a mobile game app that lets kids battle villains alongside their favorite Guardian. ReBoot: The Guardian Code is produced by Mainframe Studios, a division of Wow Unlimited Media!

ReBoot: The Guardian Code is currently streaming worldwide on Netflix and on YTV in Canada. Season 2 launches September 28, 2018, on Netflix.
