Netflix Announces Second Colombian Original Series SIEMPRE BRUJA  Image

Netflix, the world's leading internet entertainment service, announced today SIEMPRE BRUJA , its second Colombian original series which will debut exclusively on Netflix around the globe in 2019. Inspired by the novel Yo, Bruja by Isidora Chacon, the show is slated to begin production summer 2018 with Dago García (Pedro el escamoso, El Paseo) as executive producer.

The series will follow 19 year old Carmen, a Colombian slave and witch from the 17th century who, with the help of a wizard, travels in time to escape being burned at the stake. Carmen finds herself in present day Cartagena starting a new life... but once a witch, always a witch.

"We're excited to continue investing in the wonderful content and talent Colombia has to offer, and especially to be working with Caracol, as well as the creators of hit shows such as La Esclava Blanca," said Erik Barmack, Vice President of International Originals. "Our second Colombian original Siempre Bruja is not only a magnetic young adult story that audiences will love, but also holds a powerful message of empowerment that will connect deeply with members both in Colombia and globally".

Composed of ten one-hour episodes and shot entirely in 4K, the young adult drama will be produced by Caracol Television for Netflix. The series will be directed by Liliana Bocanegra (La Esclava Blanca, Made in Cartagena, Celia) and Mateo Stivelberg (La Esclava Blanca, La Rectora). Ana Maria Parra (Cuando Vivas Conmigo, La Nocturna) will be head writer.

This new series joins a larger slate of original productions being filmed in Latin America, including the recently announced Colombian original series with Dynamo Productions, as well as Ingobernable, Club de Cuervos, La Casa de las Flores, Edha, Narcos, Samantha!, O Mecanismo, O Matador, 3% and Coisa Mais Linda, among others.
