Neil Patrick Harris To Appear In Two Upcoming Feature Films

2009 Tony Award host Neil Patrick Harris will appear in two upcoming films; "Beastly" and "The Best and the Brightest" according to the Hollywood Reporter. The two pictures will film this summer During the summer hiatus from his CBS comedy, "How I Met Your Mother".

Harris will star in "The Best and the Brightest" which is described as revlolving "around a couple from Delaware who move to New York's Upper East Side and enter the world of the city's private kindergartens." Harris will lead the film as the husband, appearing opposite Bonnie Somerville, Amy Sedaris, John Hodgman, Peter Serafinowicz, Bridget Regan, Kate Mulgrew and Christopher McDonald. The Josh Shelov-directed fim features a script by Shelov and Michael Jaeger, and is produced by Rober and Patricia Weiser and Nicholas Simon.

Neil Patrick Harris will also appear in "Beastly, a modern retelling of "Beauty and the Beast." It was recently announced that Vanessa Hudgen will lead the picture, opposite Alex Pettyfer. Harris will play a blind tutor who "helps and bonds with a teen (Pettyfer) who is shellshocked from being turned into a hideous young man."  Entertainment Tonight states that the movie is "Set in Manhattan, the movie tells the story of a handsome rich kid with a mean streak. When he ditches a date, a curse is placed upon him, turning him into everything he hates. The grotesque transformation leaves him with the seemingly impossible task of finding true love to break the ugly spell." Mary-Kate Olsen will also appear in the film. which is directed by Daniel Barnz and produced by Susan Cartsonis in association with CBS Films.

Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actor, Neil Patrick Harris can currently be seen as Barney Stinson in the hit CBS comedy series, "How I Met Your Mother," a role which recently garnered him a 2009 Golden Globe nomination and two consecutive Emmy Award nominations. From his film debut opposite Whoopi Goldberg in Clara's Heart and his seminal role as the beloved titular character in "Doogie Howser, M.D.," to his recent turn in Joss Whedon's online sensation, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Harris has enjoyed a successful career spanning more than twenty years in the industry. Among his many theatrical credits include the dual role of The Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald in the Tony Award-winning production of Assassins, as well as acclaimed performances in the Broadway productions of Cabaret and Proof.
