As first reported on Deadline.com, National Geographic has announced that it will present DEEPSEA CHALLENGE, a 3-D feature documentary featuring director James Cameron's recent one-man dive last month to the Mariana Trench’s Challenger Deep, the deepest point on Earth. The expedition was a joined project between Cameron and National Geographic where the director serves as 'explorer-in-residence'.

The network will also air a half-hour interview special entitled James Cameron: Voyage to the Bottom of the Earth, which will debut this Sunday at 9 PM. In the special, Cameron recounts the seven-year road to his landmark deep sea expetition.

In describing his adventure, Cameron reveals, “I was watching the numbers going deeper. The sub slows down as you get to the target depth. There is a long moment of getting to think about it. Then you have to get busy. You have less than a thousand feet from the bottom, you fine-tune the ballast, adjust the camera, turn up the spotlight. As the altimeter counted, I saw the glow of the bottom!”
