White sands beaches, exotic flowers and blue waters are not the only alluring factors of Hawaii. Meet Dr. Sims - veterinarian to the animals in our tropical paradise that are in need. NAT GEO WILD and Shine America have greenlit Aloha Vet, a six-episode series set to air in spring 2015 that follows the good doctor on an island adventure as he hops from beaches to mountains to jungles, bringing aid to animals both domestic and wild. The announcement was made today by Geoff Daniels, EVP and general manager, Nat Geo WILD.
"Aloha Vet joins the
NAT GEO WILD portfolio of programming, which spans from awe inspiring veterinarians making a difference every day, to blue chip specials from our Destination Wild franchise, to explorers who have dedicated their lives to wildlife," said Daniels. "Dr. Sims is the perfect addition to the WILD family."
Nat Geo WILD cameras follow Dr. Sims through his busy days as the main local veterinarian in Kauai. His phone never stops ringing, his hours are long and even weeks where sleep is not a consideration. With a heart of gold, Dr. Sims will help any animal that can walk, crawl, fly or swim. In one week he'll care for a variety of animals including horses, dogs, cats, goats, bats, birds, reptiles, fish, dolphins, sea turtles and whales.
"We're so excited to bring Dr. Sims' unique story to the
NAT GEO WILD audience, the perfect home for this special docu-series," added Mike Aho, senior vice president & executive producer of factual entertainment at Shine. "Dr. Sims is beloved in Hawaii, where he flies from island to island, rescuing animals of all sizes and taking care of them regardless of whether their owners can pay his fee or not."
If an animal is in pain or hurt, Dr. Sims doesn't let the Hawaiian terrain stand in his way. We'll see him jump into his plane, hop on horseback, drive an ATV or set out on foot to help save animals. Whether he's performing procedures on mountaintops, near waterfalls, on secluded beaches or on the tailgate of a truck, one thing is certain: The animals are in good hands.
Aloha Vet is produced by Shine America for Nat Geo WILD. Shine America executive producers are Eden Gaha and Mike Aho. For Nat Geo WILD, executive producer is Tracy Rudolph; senior vice president of development and production is Janet Han Vissering; and executive vice president and general manager is Geoff Daniels.
