The guys of *NSYNC may actually be taking the stage at tonight's MTV VMA awards at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
This weekend, the group launched an official Twitter account, despite the fact that they haven't performed together since the early 2000s.
The group's first tweet read: "Mic check, mic check one.. two... is this thing on?!"
On his SiriusXM show Dirty Pop With Lance Bass on Wednesday, the former band member chatted about the recent rumors, cleverly managing to neither confirm or deny the report.
"Justin Timberlake is getting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award this Sunday at the awards, so of course people are automatically going to think we're going to be there performing, but this is exactly how it happened and I knew these rumors were going to fly," he explained.
Fueling the flames was a recent instagram Bass posted of himself along with 'NSync members Joey Fatone and ChrisKirkpatrick at Timberlake's Miami concert with Jay Z on Friday. "I think that's what started the rumor that there's going to be this big reunion with 'N Sync," he said, adding: "It's amazing to see the reaction out there on Twitter and social media [and] how many people are supporting 'N Sync. It's so nice to see because when we ended things [over] 10 years ago, there was no social media, there was no Twitter, but it's so cute to see how many people are supporting [us], and 'N Sync was even trending."
Joey Fatone also chimed in on the rumors earlier this week, asserting that he hadn't even been invited to the VMAs. However, upon touching down at NYC's JFK airport on Friday, the former band member insisted that his arrival in New York was for personal reasons. "I'm actually going to be going to Staten Island. My cousin is turning 40, which I shouldn't say. Surprise 40th on Saturday. So I'm going to be going to her birthday party."
He went on to maintain, "Why the hell would I attend? I mean, for Justin obviously, he's getting the Vanguard Award, which is cool. We heard about that, and that's when the rumors started flying about doing all this stuff... As far as I know. I haven't gotten a phone call or anything. Just like his wedding. I didn't get the phone call or the invite."
