NJTV Debuts New Agnes Varis NJTV Studio Tonight

NJTV, New Jersey's public television network, will air the first live broadcast of its weeknight news program, NJTV News with Mary Alice Williams from its new, state-of-the-art Agnes Varis NJTV Studio at 2 Gateway in Newark tonight. NJTV's new location also houses staff office space as well as a community room for hosting public events and program productions.

Tonight's broadcast, guest-anchored by correspondent Michael Hill, will feature these stories and more (subject to change):

President Obama visits Camden
Camden County police expand K-9 units
PARCC testing bills before Senate Education Committee
Princeton Symphony Orchestra's "The Composer is Dead"

A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new studio is scheduled on May 27th. The network also utilizes a Trenton Statehouse studio and content bureaus at colleges and universities across New Jersey.

NJTV News with Mary Alice Williams airs weeknights at 6pm on NJTV and THIRTEEN; with encores at 7:30pm and 11pm on NJTV.

About Agnes Varis

A self-made woman and daughter of Greek immigrants, the late Agnes Varis was a legendary business leader who started her first NJ-based company, Agvar Chemicals, in 1975. A graduate of Brooklyn College, Dr. Varis co-founded Marsam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Aegis Pharmaceuticals, both generic pharmaceutical companies. An ardent supporter of women's issues, ANIMAL welfare, and accessibility to the arts and healthcare, Varis was honored with an honorary doctorate for social service from Tufts University in 2003, and in 2010 was appointed by President Obama to the President's Committee on Arts and Humanities.
