NBC's THE VOICE Ranks #3 Among Primetime Telecasts on the Big 4 Networks

With Monday's telecast of "The Voice" ranking #3 among primetime programs on the Big 4 networks, NBC has averaged a 1.2 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49 and 5.4 million viewers overall for the week of May 4-10, according to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research, with.

Last Tuesday's edition of "The Voice" joined the Monday telecast in the week's Top 10, tying for #8. Joining the two "Voice" episodes among the week's top 40 primetime shows on the Big 4 networks were Tuesday's "Chicago Fire" (tied for #19), Thursday's "The Blacklist" (tied for #27), Wednesday's "Chicago P.D." (tied for #27), Monday's "The Night Shift" (tied for #36) and Tuesday's live telecast of "Undateable" (tied for #36).

For the 2014-15 season to date, NBC ranks #1 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 as well as men 18-49 and adults and men 18-34.

In total viewers, NBC is #2 for the season, and running within 7% of its year-ago Olympics-boosted average (8.7 million vs. 9.4 million), making this season and last NBC's two top-scoring seasons in total viewers at this point since the 2006-07 season. This is the second year in a row NBC has ranked #2 in total viewers at this point in the season, marking first two times since 2003-04 that NBC has ranked higher than #4 in total viewers at this point.

Primetime averages for the week of May 4-10 in adults 18-49 are: ABC, 1.6/6; CBS, 1.3/5; NBC, 1.2/4; Fox, 1.0/3; and CW, 0.6/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 8.1 million; ABC, 6.6 million; NBC, 5.4 million; Fox, 3.2 million; and CW, 1.6 million.

"Most current" averages for the season to date are: NBC, 2.4/8; CBS, 2.3/7; ABC, 2.2/7; Fox, 2.0/6; and CW, 0.8/3. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.3 million; NBC, 8.7 million; ABC, 7.9 million; Fox, 5.9 million; and CW, 2.1 million.

NBC highlights for the week of May 4-10:

Monday

NBC won Monday among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, led by the #1 show of the night on those nets, "The Voice."

"The Voice" (2.3/8 in 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) ranked as the #1 show of the night on the Big 4 in adults 18-49 and other key demos and won its time period among those nets in adults, men and women 18-49 and adults, men and women 25-54. Upscale: "The Voice" delivered the most upscale 18-49 audience of the night among Big 4 programs, indexing at 120 among adults 18-49 living in homes with #100K+ incomes (100 represents an average concentration of those homes, L+SD).

"Live Plus Three Day" Ratings: "The Voice" grew by +19% in 18-49 rating going from "live plus same day" to "live plus three day" Nielsens (from a 2.32 rating to a 2.75) and by 1.4 million viewers overall (from 9.9 million to 11.3 million).

"Live Plus Seven Day" Ratings: Season to date, first-run editions of Monday's "Voice" have grown in L+7 vs. L+SD by +25% in 18-49 rating (from a 3.35 to a 4.20) and 2.2 million viewers overall (12.1 million to 14.3 million).

"The Night Shift" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) grew week to week by +8% in 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.2) and +12% in total viewers (5.5 million vs. 4.9 million). "The Night Shift" delivered its most-watched episode since March 2 (6.1 million), the show's second original of the season, and equaled its top 18-49 rating since April 6 (1.4). L+3: "The Night Shift" grew by +29% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.32 to 1.70). In total viewers, "Night Shift" grew by 1.4 million persons (from 5.5 million to 6.9 million). L+7: "The Night Shift" has increased by an average of +37% in 18-49 rating this season (from a 1.35 to a 1.85) and 1.7 million viewers overall (5.5 million to 7.2 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Tuesday

NBC tied for the nightlong win among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 as "The Voice" tied as the #1 show of the night on those nets and "Chicago Fire" won decisively at 10 among the ABC-CBS-NBC dramas.

"The Voice" (2.0/7 in 18-49, 9.0 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) tied for the #1 rating of the night on the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 and was the #1 show outright on those nets in all key adult-female demos. "The Voice" grew from half-hour to half-hour in all key measures including gains of +18% in women 18-49 (2.2 to 2.6), +20% in women 18-34 (1.5 to 1.8) and +12% in women 25-54 (3.3 to 3.7). L+3: "The Voice" increased by +15% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.96 to 2.26). In total viewers, "Voice" grew by 874,000 persons (from 9.0 million to 9.7 million). L+7: Originals of Tuesday's "Voice" have grown by an average of +25% in 18-49 rating this season (from a 3.28 to a 4.09) and 2.1 million viewers overall (12.4 million to 14.5 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

A special hourlong live telecast of "Undateable" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) grew +8% versus the prior week's half-hour episode in 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.2 from 9-9:30). "Undateable" improved by +18% on NBC's slot average this season in 18-49, excluding "The Voice" (1.3 vs. 1.1 Tuesdays from 9-10 excluding night "The Voice" ran in the hour). L+3: "Undateable" grew by +17% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.33 to 1.55). In total viewers, "Undateable" increased by 481,000 persons (from 4.2 million to 4.7 million. L+7: "Undateable" is increasing by an average +19% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.54 to a 1.84 and 611,000 viewers overall (5.3 million to 5.9 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "Undateable" generated the most upscale 18-49 audience of the night among Big 4 shows of programs, indexing at a 135 among adults 18-49 living in homes with #100K+ incomes (100 represents an average concentration of those homes, L+SD).

"Chicago Fire" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) maintained 100% of the prior week's rating from a crossover episode that tied in with Wednesday's "Chicago P.D." and "Law & Order: SVU." "Chicago Fire" originals have now won the time period seven consecutive times among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49. This week's "Chicago Fire" dominated the time period among the ABC-CBS-NBC dramas in adults 18-49, winning among those nets by a +45% margin (1.6 vs. 1.1 each for "Person of Interest" and "Forever"). "Chicago Fire" equaled its highest 18-49 rating on a night with no "Voice" lead-in since Jan. 7 (1.7/5), a span covering eight original "Chicago Fire" telecasts. L+3: "Chicago Fire" grew by +43% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.64 to 2.35). In total viewers, "Chicago Fire" increased by 2.3 million persons (from 6.8 million to 9.1 million). L+7: "Chicago Fire" first-runs have increased by an average +61% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.86 to a 2.99) and more than 3.5 million viewers overall (7.5 million to 11.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Wednesday

"The Mysteries of Laura" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) finished within 0.1 of its prior telecast two weeks earlier (0.9 vs. 1.0 on April 22).

L+3: "Laura" grew by +30% in L+3 vs. L+SD in 18-49 rating (0.92 to 1.20), and grew in total viewers by 1.2 million persons (6.0 million to 7.2 million). L+7: "The Mysteries of Laura" originals are growing by +33% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.25 to a 1.66) and 1.8 million viewers overall (7.6 million to 9.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) built by +33% on its lead-in in adults 18-49. L+3: "SVU" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +72% in 18-49 rating (1.20 to 2.06) and in total viewers by 2.1 million persons (6.1 million to 8.2 million). L+7: "SVU" originals this season are increasing by an average of +70% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.62 to a 2.75) and 2.9 million viewers overall (7.3 million to 10.2 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Chicago P.D." (1.4/4 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) won the slot among the ABC-CBS-NBC dramas in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 (tie), adults 25-54 and all key adult-male demos. "Chicago P.D." has now finished #1 or tied for #1 among the hour's ABC-CBS-NBC dramas in adults 18-49 with its last 10 regular-slot originals in a row and 13 of its last 14. L+3: "Chicago P.D." grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +58% in 18-49 rating (1.35 to 2.13) and in total viewers by 2.4 million persons (6.5 million to 8.9 million). L+7: "Chicago P.D." originals are growing by an average of +70% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.58 to a 2.68) and 3.3 million viewers overall (7.1 million to 10.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Thursday

An encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET, to capture NBC's best 18-49 rating in the slot since April 16.

"The Blacklist" (1.4/5 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) increased its rating by +17% week to week in adults 18-49 (1.4 vs. 1.2) and +5% in total viewers (6.9 million vs. 6.6 million). This week's "Blacklist" also grew week to week by +40% in adults 18-34 (0.7 vs. 0.5), +50% in men 18-34 (0.6 vs. 0.4) and +60% in women 18-34 (0.8 vs. 0.5). In the time period, "The Blacklist" tied for #1 among the Big 4 nets in the time period in men 18-49 (with a 1.3 rating).

L+3: The prior week's "Blacklist" grew by a series-record +99% in L+3 vs. L+SD in 18-49 rating (1.25 to 2.49), and grew in total viewers by 4.0 million persons (6.6 million to 10.6 million), the largest increases of the night on the Big 4. The 4.0 million gain was also the biggest increase on all of U.S. television that week. L+7: This season, originals of "The Blacklist" are increasing by an average of +71% in 18-49 rating (from a 2.50 to a 4.28) and 5.7 million viewers overall (9.9 million to 15.6 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "The Blacklist" remains a top upscale attraction - 140 index of adults 18-49 living in $100K+ homes ("most current").

"Dateline NBC" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) tied for #2 among ABC, CBS and NBC in the time period in adults 25-54 (with a 1.2 rating), and men 18-34 and ranked #2 outright among those nets in men 18-49 and men 25-54. L+3: The previous week's Thursday "Dateline" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +26% in 18-49 rating (0.93 to 1.17) and in total viewers by 782,000 persons (5.0 million to 5.8 million). L+7: Thursday's "Dateline" is growing by an average of +22% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.06 to a 1.29) and 769,000 viewers overall (5.7 million to 6.5 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "Dateline NBC" delivered the most upscale 18-49 audience of the night among Big 4 programs, indexing at 120 among adults 18-49 living in homes with #100K+ incomes (100 represents an average concentration of those homes, L+SD).

Friday

"Grimm" (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew +11% week to week in adults 18-49 (1.0 vs. 0.9) to match its highest rating since April 10 (1.1). L+3: The previous week's "Grimm" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +70% in 18-49 rating (0.89 to 1.51) and in total viewers by more than 1.8 million persons (4.2 million to 6.1 million). L+7: Friday's "Dateline" is increasing by an average of +25% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.20 to a 1.50) and 937,000 viewers overall (6.0 million to 6.9 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Dateline NBC" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) increased by +10% versus the prior week in adults 18-49 (1.1 vs. 1.0), to the show's top Friday rating since April 3 (1.2). In total viewers, "Dateline" was up +5% week to week (5.7 million vs. 5.4 million) to a five-week high (best since April 3, 5.9 million). For its second hour from 10-11 p.m., "Dateline NBC" tied for #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and was #1 outright among those nets from 10-11 in adults 25-54 (1.8). L+3: The prior week's Friday "Dateline" grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +19% in 18-49 rating (1.01 to 1.20) and in total viewers by 832,000 persons (5.4 million to 6.3 million). L+7: "Grimm" first-runs are growing by an average of +85% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.17 to a 2.16) and 2.6 million viewers overall (4.9 million to 7.5 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Saturday

An encore telecast of "The Voice" averaged a 0.3/1 in 18-49 and 1.9 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET.

"SNL Vintage" (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET with an encore of an Oct. 27, 1990 telecast hosted by Patrick Swayze with musical guest Mariah Carey) grew versus the prior "SNL Vintage" telecast on April 4 by +20% or 0.1 of a rating point in adults 18-49 (0.6 vs. 0.5) and by +13% in total viewers (2.3 million vs. 2.0 million).

Sunday

NBC Sports overrun coverage of The Players Championship golf (1.5/6 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall from 7-8:03 p.m. ET) led the hour in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and other key demos among the Big 4 networks. Golf scored NBC's top 18-49 rating in the Sunday 7-8 p.m. hour since the Feb. 15 "Red Carpet" show preceding the "SNL 40" special.

"Dateline NBC" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall from 8:03-9 p.m. ET) grew from its first half-hour to its second by 0.1 of a rating point or +14% in adults 18-49 (0.7 to 0.8) and by 0.1 or +10% in adults 25-54 (1.0 to 1.1).

"A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) built on its lead-in by 0.1 of a point or +13% in 18-49 and +20% in total viewers. L+3: The previous week's "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +15% in 18-49 rating (1.09 to 1.25) and in total viewers by 769,000 persons (5.5 million to 6.2 million). L+7: "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" has grown by +22% in 18-49 (from a 1.57 rating to a 1.91) and more than 1.3 million viewers overall (7.4 million to 8.7 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"American Odyssey" (0.5/2 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) matched its 18-49 rating of the prior three weeks. L+3: The prior week's "American Odyssey" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +22% in 18-49 rating (0.49 to 0.60) and in total viewers by 708,000 persons (3.1 million to 3.8 million). L+7: "American Odyssey" is increasing by an average +26% in 18-49 rating (from a 0.74 to a 0.93) and more than 1.2 million viewers overall (3.8 million to 5.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.
