NBC's THE VOICE Delivers Two of Top Four 18-49 Ratings for Primetime Week

NBC has tied for #2 among the Big 4 networks for the primetime ratings week of March 9-15 in adults 18-49, finishing within 0.1 of a rating point of #1, as the Monday and Tuesday editions of "The Voice" accounted for two of the week's top four primetime telecasts on the Big 4 networks.

For the week, NBC averaged a 1.5 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 6.4 million viewers overall, according to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

In addition to generating two of the week's top four primetime Big 4 ratings in adults 18-49, "The Voice" delivered two of the top four results in men 18-49 and adults, men and women 25-54 and two of the top three in women 18-49, teens 12-17 and kids 2-11.

For the 2014-15 season to date, NBC ranks #1 or tied for #1 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 as well as adults 25-54, adults 18-34, men and women 18-34 and men and women 18-49.

In total viewers, NBC is #2 for the season, and running within 8% of its year-ago Olympics-boosted average (9.3 million vs. 10.1 million), making this season and last NBC's two top-scoring seasons in total viewers at this point since the 2006-07 season. This is the second year in a row NBC has ranked #2 in total viewers at this point in the season, marking first two times since 2003-04 that NBC has ranked as high as #2 in total viewers at this point.

Primetime averages for the week of March 9-15 in adults 18-49 are: CBS, 1.6/5; NBC, 1.5/5; ABC, 1.5/5; Fox, 1.4/5; and CW, 0.4/1. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 9.2 million; NBC, 6.4 million; ABC, 5.6 million; Fox, 4.6 million; and CW, 1.1 million.

"Most current" averages for the season to date are: NBC, 2.7/8; CBS, 2.4/8; ABC, 2.2/7; Fox, 2.1/7; and CW, 0.8/3. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.6 million; NBC, 9.3 million; ABC, 7.9 million; Fox, 6.2 million; and CW, 2.1 million.

NBC highlights for the week of March 9-15:

Monday

NBC won Monday in 18-49 with the #1 show of the night, "The Voice."

"The Voice" (3.8 rating, 12 share in adults 18-49, 14.0 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) was the #1 show of the night in adults 18-49 by a +36% margin over ABC's "The Bachelor" finale (2.8) and was also the #1 program of the night in total viewers, topping the #2 show by +30% or more than 3.2 million persons (14.0 million vs. 10.7 million for CBS's "NCIS: LA). Versus the same night last year, "The Voice" was up +3% in 18-49 (3.8 vs. 3.7) and up +1% in total viewers (14.0 million vs. 13.8 million). On the first Monday of Daylight Saving Time, "The Voice" finished within 3% of the prior week's 3.9 in 18-49, up from the same night last year, when "The Voice" declined by 18% week-to-week (3.7 vs. 4.5). In total viewers, "The Voice" finished within 5% of the previous week's result (14.0 million vs. 14.7 million), while the decline on the same night last year was 12% (13.8 million vs. 15.6 million).

"Live Plus Three Day" Ratings: "The Voice" grew by +19% in 18-49 rating going from "live plus same day" to "live plus three day" Nielsens (from a 3.75 rating to a 4.49) and by 1.9 million viewers overall (from 14.0 million to 15.9 million), for its most-watched episode in L+3 since Monday, March 3, 2014 (17.4 million).

"Live Plus Seven Day" Ratings: Season to date, first-run editions of Monday's "Voice" have grown in L+7 vs. L+SD by +25% in 18-49 rating (from a 3.4.0 to a 4.26) and 2.2 million viewers overall (12.1 million to 14.3 million).

Upscale: The prior Monday's "Voice" was the #2 most upscale show on the Big 4 that night, indexing at 114 among in adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes (100 represents an average concentration of those homes, L+SD).

"The Night Shift" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) maintained 93% of the prior week's adult 18-49 rating, held +100% in adults 25-54 (1.8 vs. 1.8) and was up +13% in adults 18-34 (0.9 vs. 0.8) and up +60% in men 18-34 (0.8 vs. 0.5), despite this week facing special competition from ABC's "After the Final Rose" episode of "The Bachelor." L+3: "The Night Shift" grew by +28% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.29 to 1.65). In total viewers, "Night Shift grew by more than 1.2 million persons (from 5.4 million to 6.7 million). L+7: "The Night Shift" increased by +40% last summer going from L+SD to L+7 in 18-49 (from a 1.36 rating to a 1.90) and more than 1.9 million viewers overall (from 6.6 million to 8.5 million).

Tuesday

NBC dominated Tuesday night in every key demographic among the Big 4, sweeping six of six half-hours in adults 18-49 with "The Voice" and "Chicago Fire."

"The Voice" (3.8/12 in 18-49, 13.7 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) doubled the time period's #2 network in adults 18-49 (3.8 vs. 1.9 from 8-10 p.m. for CBS's "NCIS" and "NCIS: New Orleans") and beat "The Voice's" year-ago rating by +9% in 18-49 (3.8 vs. 3.5 from 8-9:01 p.m. ET on March 11, 2014). In total viewers, "The Voice" finished up by +2% versus the year-ago night (13.7 million vs. 13.5 million). "The Voice" was the #1 show of the night on the Big 4 in every key demographic. "The Voice" grew +21% or 0.7 of a rating point from its first half-hour to its fourth in 18-49 (3.3 to 4.0).

L+3: "The Voice" increased by +17% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (3.78 to 4.41). In total viewers, "The Voice" grew by 1.5 million persons (from 13.7 million to 15.2 million), for its most-watched Tuesday telecast ever in L+3. L+7: Originals of Tuesday's "Voice" have grown by an average of +24% in 18-49 rating this season (from a 3.32 to a 4.13) and 2.1 million viewers overall (12.3 million to 14.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Chicago Fire" (2.1/7 in 18-49, 8.6 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) equaled its highest 18-49 rating since Nov. 11 (2.2), retaining 100% of the prior week's 2.1 in 18-49. "Chicago Fire" was the only original on the Big 4 networks that night to match the 18-49 rating of its prior first-run telecast. This week's "Chicago Fire" ranked #1 in the time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and other key measures, topping by a +40% margin the #2 show in 18-49, CBS's "Person of Interest" (2.1 vs. 1.5).

L+3: "Chicago Fire" grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +38% in 18-49 rating (2.12 to 2.91) and more than 2.6 million persons (8.6 million to 11.2 million). L+7: "Chicago Fire" first-runs have increased by an average +62% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.85 to a 2.99) and 3.5 million viewers overall (7.4 million to 10.9 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Wednesday

An encore telecast of "The Mysteries of Laura" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) matched the show's highest 18-49 rating to date for a rebroadcast among five encores aired thus far.

A rebroadcast of "Law & Order: SVU" averaged a 0.7/2 in 18-49 and 3.7 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET in the highly competitive 9 p.m. hour.

An encore telecast of "Chicago P.D." (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) maintained or increased its rating from half-hour to half-hour in every key measure, despite the 10 p.m. hour. The "Chicago P.D." rebroadcast grew +9% in adults 25-54 from its first half-hour to its second (1.1 to 1.2). "Chicago P.D." built by +29% on its lead-in in adults 18-49 and by +30% in total viewers.

Thursday

"Dateline: The Real Blacklist" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew versus NBC's results in the slot the previous week by +13% in 18-49 (0.9 vs. 0.8) and +15% in total viewers (4.5 million vs. 3.9 million), to earn NBC's best figures in the time period since Feb. 12 and to rank as the only Big 4 show in the hour to top the prior week's results in either category on the first Thursday of Daylight Saving Time.

"The Blacklist" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) built on its lead-in by +88% in 18-49 and by +66% in total viewers. L+3: The prior week's "Blacklist" grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +79% in 18-49 rating (1.78 to 3.19) and in total viewers by 4.3 million persons (8.2 million to 12.6 million), the biggest increases on the night among Big 4 primetime programs. L+7: This season, originals of "The Blacklist" are increasing by an average of +64% in 18-49 rating (from a 2.89 to a 4.74) and more than 6.0 million viewers overall (10.8 million to 16.8 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "The Blacklist" was the prior Thursday's most upscale primetime telecast on the Big 4 in L+SD, indexing at a 148 among adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes (100 represents an average concentration of those homes).

"The Slap" (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) finished down 0.2 in adults 18-49 versus the prior week's 0.8 in the 8 p.m. ET hour but equaled its week-ago ratings in men 18-49 and men 18-34. L+3: The prior week's "Slap" grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +34% in 18-49 rating (0.80 to 1.07) and in total viewers by 854,000 persons (3.9 million to 4.8 million). L+7: "The Slap" growing by an average of +47% in 18-49 rating (from a 0.88 to a 1.29) and more than 1.3 million viewers overall (4.3 million to 5.6 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "The Slap" has been a solid upscale attraction, delivering a 120 index of adults 18-49 living in homes with $100K+ incomes ("most current" including L+3, with 100 representing an average concentration of those homes).

Friday

A rebroadcast of "Grimm" (0.5/2 in 18-49, 2.5 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) scored as the show's most-watched encore since April 12, 2013 (2.6 million).

"Dateline NBC" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) was the night's #1 newsmagazine in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 (1.7) and total viewers. L+3: The prior week's "Dateline" on March 6 grew by +21% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.34 to a 1.62) and 918,000 viewers overall (6.5 million to 7.4 million) going from L+SD to L+3. L+7: Friday's "Dateline" is increasing by an average of +24% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.23 to a 1.53) and 929,000 viewers overall (6.2 million to 7.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Saturday

NBC won Saturday primetime among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49 with "Dateline Saturday Night Mystery" and "SNL Vintage" tying as the #1 telecast of the night on the Big 4.

"Dateline Saturday Night Mystery" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) won its two-hour time period among the Big 4 in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers.

"SNL Vintage" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET, with an encore of the May 18, 1996 telecast of "Saturday night Live" with host Jim Carrey and musical guest Soundgarden) tied for #1 among Big 4 primetime telecasts in adults 18-49 with "Dateline Mystery" and was #1 among those networks in adults 18-34 and all key adult-male demos.

Sunday

An encore telecast of "The Voice" (0.8/3 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall from 7-9 p.m. ET) grew by 0.4 of a rating point or +67% from its first half-hour to its fourth in adults 18-49 (0.6 to 1.0) and +78% or 1.9 million persons in total viewers (2.5 million to 4.4 million).

"Dateline NBC" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) grew week to week by +13% in adult 18-49 rating (0.9 vs. 0.8), by +27% in adults 25-54 (1.4 vs. 1.1) and by +36% or more than 1.3 million persons in total viewers (5.1 million vs. 3.7 million). "Dateline" equaled its highest Sunday rating in 18-49 and 25-54 since Jan. 25 (1.2 in 18-49, 1.8 in 25-54 from 7-8 p.m.). In total viewers, it's the most-watched Sunday "Dateline" since Feb. 22 (5.4 million from 7-8 p.m.).
