NBC's COMMUNITY Season Debut Ranks #2 in Time Period

From 8-9 p.m. ET, the fifth season debut of "Community" (1.3/3 in adults 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX in adults 18-49, topping ABC's season premiere of "The Taste" (1.2/3). "Community" also ranked #2 among those networks in adults, men and women 18-34, and during its second half-hour from 8:30-9 tied for #1 among men 18-34.

"Community" matched last May's season finale in adults 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.3) and beat that season finale in total viewers by 10% (3.386 million vs. 3.077 million). Versus last season's originals average, "Community" was up 8% in 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.2) and up 19% in total viewers (3.386 million vs. 2.855 million).

L+7 Time Shifting: Note that last season, "Community" added an average 42% to these next-day "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen reported "live plus seven day results (to an average 1.69 rating in adults 18-49 from a 1.19).

With its first telecast in three weeks and second telecast in six weeks, "Sean Saves the World" averaged a 0.8/2 in 18-49 and 2.8 million viewers overall from 9-9:30 p.m. ET. L+7 Time-Shifting: The Dec. 12 "Sean Saves the World" grew by 35% or 0.35 of a rating point going from its L+SD rating to L+7 (1.00 to 1.35).

With its first telecast in three weeks and second in six weeks, "The Michael J. FOX Show" (0.8/2 in 18-49, 2.5 million viewers from 9:30-10 p.m. ET) retained 100% of its adult 18-49 lead-in. L+7 Time-Shifting: The Dec. 12 "Michael J. FOX Show" grew by 46% or 0.41 of a rating point going from its L+SD rating to L+7 (0.90 to 1.31).

With its first telecast in three weeks, "Parenthood" (1.3/3 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m.) scored its highest 18-49 rating since Nov. 7 and matched its highest rating since Oct. 3 during the second week of the season. In total viewers, this is the top "Parenthood" since Oct. 17. Note that "Parenthood" is a highly time-shifted show, with its prior telecast adding 78% to its 18-49 rating going from these L+SD results to L+7 (see details below).

"Parenthood" won The Hour among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-34 and ranked #2 in most other key categories, topping ABC's premiere of "The Assets" (0.7/2 in 18-49) in all key categories.

L+7 Time-Shifting: The Dec. 12 "Parenthood" grew by 78% or 0.97 of a rating point going from its L+SD rating to L+7 (1.25 to 2.22).


In Late-Night Metered Markets Thursday night:

In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.5/6 with an encore telecast; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.2/5 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.7/4 with an encore.

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 0.8/3 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.5/2 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/2 with an encore.

From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.2/4 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.1/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/2 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/1 with an encore).

At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
