NBCUniversal to Celebrate Earth Week & Comcast Cares Day

In support of Comcast Cares Day, one of the country's largest days of corporate volunteerism, more than 80,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners from across the globe will volunteer in their local communities. On Friday, April 25th from 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM, NBCUniversal, together with New York Cares, will be revitalizing New York City's East River Park as part of Comcast Cares Day and Green is Universal's Earth Week.

The event will be led by home improvement expert George Oliphant, host of NBC's George to the Rescue. Michael Jack, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47's President and General Manager Cristina Schwarz will provide opening remarks. In addition, NBC 4 New York talent in attendance will include Chuck Scarborough, Lynda Baquero, Raphael Miranda, Michael Gargiulo, Andrew Siff, Checkey Beckford, Marc Santia, Sheldon Dutes, Harry Cicma, Gus Rosendale, Steve Sosna, and Michael George. Also participating are Noticiero Telemundo 47's Jorge Ramos, Gloria Echeverry, Veronica Contreras, Rafael Bello, Allan Villafana, Odalys Molina, Victoria Sosa and Nathalia Ortiz.

"We are excited to team up with the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC) and New York Cares to take part in the maintenance and enhancement project of East River Park. Comcast Cares Day is an annual tradition that Comcast NBCUniversal is proud to support."

"We're thrilled to once again join our sister station NBC 4 NY and partner with New York Cares in the beautification efforts at East River Park at our annual Comcast Cares Day service project."

More than 200 NBCUniversal employees are expected to join the Lower East Side Ecology Center (LESEC) in projects that include removing weeds, adding compost and planting native species in planting beds, spreading woodchips and painting the fence separating the park from the FDR highway. LESEC works toward a more sustainable New York City by providing community based recycling and composting programs, local stewardship programs as well as environmental education.

The Ecology Center's composting programs help ensure that organic material are returned to the earth via the NYC Compost Project in Manhattan.
