NBC to Air 2014 SPARTAN RACE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, 11/16

NBC Sports Group showcases some of the world's best athletes in obstacle racing this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET when NBC presents coverage of the 2014 SPARTAN RACE World Championship from Killington, Vt.

The SPARTAN RACE World Championship, held annually at Killington Mountain Resort, is widely recognized as the most challenging obstacle course racing event of the year. More than 10,000 athletes from around the world participated in the race, which traversed 14.5 miles and 33 obstacles across the treacherous black diamond trails on Killington Mountain. This year's race took place on Sept. 20 in 45-degree weather, adding another element of difficulty to the event.

Veteran action sports broadcaster Sal Masekela will call the race from Killington, Vt. In addition to television coverage on NBC, NBC Sports Live Extra - NBC Sports Group's live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets - will provide streaming coverage of this Sunday's SPARTAN RACE World Championship.

Highlights from Sunday's presentation include:

  • Spotlight features on competition favorites Matt "The Bear" Novakovich,Rose Wetzel, Hunter McIntyre, and John Yatsko;
  • Surprise second-place finish in the women's race for SPARTAN RACE rookieCorinna Coffin, a senior at Virginia Tech;
  • Third-place finish in the women's race for April Dee, a U.S. military veteran, internationally-ranked SPARTAN RACE competitor, and mother of two;
  • Exclusive interviews with international competitors and 2014 SPARTAN RACE World Championship winners Claude Godbout (CAN) and Jon Albon(GBR), who took first place in the women's and men's races;
  • Remarkable story of perseverance from high-school wrestler James Magana, who is legally blind and completed the course alongside his former coach Daren de Heras.
