NBC UNIVERSO presents its first race of this NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES season from the legendary Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida: The Coke Zero 400, live this Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 PM/6:30C
The race, the second most important after the NASCAR Daytona 500, will be the seventeenth of the
NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES season. Only nine events remain in the regular season before the playoffs commence. The traditional competition, which dates back to 1959, lasts 160 laps, adding up to a total of 400 miles. Famed drivers such as Colombia's Juan Pablo Montoya, David Pearson, Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt Jr. have all competed in the series. Earnhardt took home the winner's trophy on July 6 of last year in a dramatic finish at 2:40 a.m., after heavy rains postponed the race to 11:40 p.m.
The 2016
NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES season has been a close competition for the top three spots. Kevin Harvick is currently in first place with 562 points, followed by Kurt Busch with 527. Carl Edwards has 510 after moving up from fourth to third place in the last race.
