NBC' THE VOICE Ranks #3 Among Primetime Telecasts for the Week

With Monday's telecast of "The Voice" ranking #3 among primetime programs on the Big 4 networks, NBC has tied for #2 among those nets in adults 18-49 for the week of May 11-17, averaging a 1.2 rating, 4 share in 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall, according to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

NBC also ranked #2 or tied for #2 for the week among the Big 4 nets in adults 18-34, women 18-34, women 18-49 and women 25-54.

Last Tuesday's edition of "The Voice" teamed with the Monday telecast to finish in the week's Top 10, ranking #8. Joining the two "Voice" episodes among the week's top 30 primetime shows on the Big 4 networks were Thursday's "The Blacklist" (tied for #20), Wednesday's "Chicago P.D." (tied for #20), Wednesday's "Law & Order: SVU" (tied for #20) and Tuesday's "Chicago Fire" (tied for #24).

NBC is concluding the 2014-15 traditional September-to-May primetime season #1 in adults 18-49 for a second straight season (see separate release). NBC also ranks #1 or tied for #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX for the season in men 18-49, adults 18-34 and men 18-34.

In total viewers, NBC will finish the conventional season ranking #2 and is currently running within 7% of its year-ago Olympics-boosted average (8.6 million vs. 9.3 million). That makes this season and last NBC's two top-scoring seasons in total viewers since 2006-07. It's the second season in a row NBC has ranked #2 in total viewers, marking the first two times since 2003-04 that NBC has finished higher than #4 in total viewers during a traditional September-to-May season.

Primetime averages for the week of May 11-17 in adults 18-49 are: ABC, 1.8/7; CBS, 1.2/4; NBC, 1.2/4; Fox, 1.0/3; and CW, 0.6/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 7.3 million; ABC, 7.3 million; NBC, 5.5 million; Fox, 3.5 million; and CW, 1.7 million.

"Most current" averages for the 2014-15 traditional September-to-May season are: NBC, 2.4/8; CBS, 2.3/7; ABC, 2.2/7; Fox, 1.9/6; and CW, 0.8/3. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.3 million; NBC, 8.6 million; ABC, 8.0 million; Fox, 5.8 million; and CW, 2.1 million.

May 2015 Sweep Averages: With 25 of 28 nights counted in Nielsen's May Sweep period, "live plus same day" averages are: ABC, 1.7 rating; CBS, 1.3; NBC, 1.1; Fox, 1.0; and CW, 0.6. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 7.9 million; ABC, 6.8 million; NBC, 5.3 million; Fox, 3.2 million; and CW, 1.5 million.

NBC highlights for the week of May 11-17:

Monday

NBC won Monday among in adults 18-49, led by the #1 show of the night, "The Voice."

"The Voice" (2.4 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49, 10.1 million viewers overall from 8-10:01 p.m. ET) grew +4% week to week in 18-49 (to a 2.4 rating vs. a 2.3) to rate within 0.1 of the comparable episode during the prior cycle (2.4 vs. 2.5 on Dec. 8, 2014). "The Voice" ranked #1 or tied for #1 among all Big 4 shows Monday night in every key demographic - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. Upscale: "The Voice" delivered the most upscale 18-49 audience of the night among Big 4 programs, indexing at 122 among adults 18-49 living in homes with #100K+ incomes (100 represents an average concentration of those homes, L+SD).

"Live Plus Three Day" Ratings: "The Voice" grew by +14% in 18-49 rating going from "live plus same day" to "live plus three day" Nielsens (from a 2.44 rating to a 2.77) and by 1.1 million viewers overall (from 10.1 million to 11.2 million).

"Live Plus Seven Day" Ratings: Season to date, first-run editions of Monday's "Voice" have grown in L+7 vs. L+SD by +25% in 18-49 rating (from a 3.32 to a 4.15) and more than 2.1 million viewers overall (12.1 million to 14.2 million).

"The Night Shift" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) finished within 0.2 of a rating point of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 among the ABC-CBS-NBC dramas (with a 1.2 rating vs. a 1.4 for ABC's "Castle" season finale) and within 0.1 of the "NightShift rating from the prior week (1.2 vs. 1.3). "The Night Shift" maintained 100% of its rating week to week in adults 18-34 (0.8 vs. 0.8) and was up +10% in women 18-34 (1.1 vs. 1.0). L+3: "The Night Shift" grew by +27% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.18 to 1.50). In total viewers, "Night Shift" grew by 1.2 million persons (from 4.9 million to 6.1 million). L+7: "The Night Shift" has increased by an average of +38% in 18-49 rating this season (from a 1.33 to a 1.83) and 1.7 million viewers overall (5.4 million to 7.1 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Tuesday

NBC tied for the nightlong win in adults 18-49 among the Big 4 networks with the #1 show of the night on those nets, "The Voice."

"The Voice" (2.1/7 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew week to week by 5% in 18-49 (2.1 vs. 2.0) and +2% in total viewers (9.1 million vs. 9.0 million). "The Voice" was the #1 show of the night on the Big 4 in adults 18-49, as well as adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and all key adult-female demos. L+3: "The Voice" increased by +11% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (2.14 to 2.38). In total viewers, "Voice" grew by 906,000 persons (from 9.1 million to 10.0 million). L+7: Originals of Tuesday's "Voice" have grown by an average of +25% in 18-49 rating this season (from a 3.24 to a 4.04) and more than 2.0 million viewers overall (12.3 million to 14.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

The hourlong season finale of "Undateable" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) retained 100% of the prior week's 1.3 rating in 18-49 for a special live telecast. In the time period, "Undateable" tied for #2 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, equaling ABC's season finale of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and Fox's final competition episode of "American Idol." "Undateable" tied for #1 in the time period among those nets in women 18-34, ahead of "S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Idol." L+3: "Undateable" grew by +13% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.30 to 1.47). In total viewers, "Undateable" increased by 359,000 persons (from 4.0 million to 4.4 million. L+7: "Undateable" is increasing by an average +19% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.49 to a 1.78 and 598,000 viewers overall (5.2 million to 5.8 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "Undateable" generated the most upscale 18-49 audience of the night among Big 4 shows of programs, indexing at a 117 among adults 18-49 living in homes with #100K+ incomes.

The season finale of "Chicago Fire" (1.5/5 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) won the time period among the ABC-CBS-NBC dramas in adults 18-49 versus the second hour of ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season finale and CBS's special "CSI: Cyber." "Chicago Fire" originals have now won the time period eight consecutive times among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49. "Chicago Fire" also ranked #1 in the slot among those nets in adults 18-34 (tie), adults 25-54 and all key adult-female demos. L+3: "Chicago Fire" grew by +51% in 18-49 going from L+SD to L+3 (1.48 to 2.24). In total viewers, "Chicago Fire" increased by 2.5 million persons (from 6.7 million to 9.2 million). L+7: "Chicago Fire" first-runs have increased by an average +61% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.85 to a 2.97) and 3.5 million viewers overall (7.5 million to 11.0 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Wednesday

"The Mysteries of Laura" (1.0/4 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew +11% week to week in 18-49 (1.1 vs. 1.0) and +2% in total viewers (6.2 million vs. 6.0 million). "Laura" matched its highest 18-49 rating since the Feb. 25 telecast featuring guest star Eric McCormack of "Will & Grace" (1.4). L+3: "Laura" grew by +23% in L+3 vs. L+SD in 18-49 rating (1.01 to 1.24), and grew in total viewers by more than 1.1 million persons (6.2 million to 7.3 million). L+7: "The Mysteries of Laura" originals are growing by +33% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.25 to a 1.66) and 1.8 million viewers overall (7.6 million to 9.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Law & Order: SVU" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 6.8 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) jumped +33% week to week in 18-49 (1.6 vs. 1.2) and +12% in total viewers (6.8 million vs. 6.1 million). "SVU" built by +60% on its adult 18-49 lead-in and tied NBC's "Chicago P.D." as the #1 drama of the night on the Big 4. From half-hour to half-hour, "SVU" increased by +21% in adults 18-49 (1.4 to 1.7), +26% in women 18-49 (1.9 to 2.4) and +15% in women 25-54 (2.6 to 3.0). . L+3: "SVU" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +49% in 18-49 rating (1.56 to 2.33) and in total viewers by 2.0 million persons (6.8 million to 8.8 million). L+7: "SVU" originals this season are increasing by an average of +70% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.64 to a 2.79) and 3.0 million viewers overall (7.4 million to 10.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Chicago P.D." (1.6/5 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET) grew +14% week to week in 18-49 (1.6 vs. 1.4) and +6% in total viewers (6.9 million vs. 6.5 million). In the time period, "Chicago P.D." ranked #1 among the ABC-CBS-NBC dramas in adults 18-49 and was #1 or tied for #1 among those nets in all other key measures. "Chicago P.D." has now finished #1 or tied for #1 among the hour's ABC-CBS-NBC dramas in adults 18-49 with its last 11 regular-slot originals in a row and 14 of its last 15. "Chicago P.D." tied NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" as the #1 drama of the night on the Big 4 in 18-49. The 1.6 rating in 18-49 matched the show's highest for a non-crossover episode since Feb. 18 (1.7). L+3: "Chicago P.D." grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +47% in 18-49 rating (1.59 to 2.34) and in total viewers by 2.5 million persons (6.9 million to 9.4 million). L+7: "Chicago P.D." originals are growing by an average of +69% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.59 to a 2.68) and 3.3 million viewers overall (7.1 million to 10.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Thursday

An encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (0.7/3 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew by +17% in 18-49 versus the previous week's 0.6 and was up +13% in total viewers (3.7 million vs. 3.3 million), to capture NBC's top 18-49 and total-viewer results in the slot since April 16.

"The Blacklist" (1.6/5 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) grew +14% versus the prior week's 1.4 rating in 18-49 and was up +33% versus a 1.2 the week before that. In total viewers, "Blacklist" as up +9% versus the previous week (7.5 million vs. 6.9 million) and up +14% versus the week before that (7.5 million vs. 6.6 million). In 18-49, "The Blacklist" matched its highest rating since March 19 (1.8/6) and in total viewers it was a high since April 2 (7.7 million). This week's "Blacklist" built by +129% on its lead-in in 18-49 and by +100% in total viewers.

L+3: The prior week's "Blacklist" grew by +80% in L+3 vs. L+SD in 18-49 rating (1.38 to 2.48), the biggest increase of the night on the Big 4 nets, and grew in total viewers by 3.6 million persons (6.9 million to 10.5 million). L+7: This season, originals of "The Blacklist" are increasing by an average of +73% in 18-49 rating (from a 2.44 to a 4.21) and 5.7 million viewers overall (9.7 million to 15.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7. Upscale: "The Blacklist" delivered the night's most educated audience among Big 4 primetime programs, indexing at a 133 with adults 18-49 with four or more years of college (L+SD).

"Dateline NBC" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m.) increased by +25% week to week in 18-49 (1.0 vs. 0.8) to hit a four-week high for a Thursday telecast (best since April 16, 1.1). From half-hour to half-hour "Dateline NBC" grew by +22% in adults 18-49 (0.9 to 1.1), despite the 10 p.m. hour, and tied for #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC for the 10:30-11 p.m. half-hour. L+7: Thursday's "Dateline" is growing by an average of +22% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.05 to a 1.28) and 786,000 viewers overall (5.6 million to 6.4 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Friday

"Grimm" (1.1/5 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) grew in adults 18-49 for a second straight week, up +10% versus the prior week in 18-49 (1.1 vs. 1.0) and up +22% versus the week before that (1.1 vs. 0.9 on May 1). This season-finale telecast of "Grimm" matched the show's top 18-49 rating since Feb. 6 (1.2 at 9 p.m.) and equaled its top rating for the season in the 8 p.m. hour ("Grimm" moved from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 20). In total viewers, the 4.7 million is "Grimm's" biggest overall audience since April 10 (4.8 million). L+3: The previous week's "Grimm" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +63% in 18-49 rating (0.97 to 1.58) and in total viewers by 1.8 million persons (4.2 million to 6.0 million). L+7: "Grimm" first-runs are growing by an average of +85% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.15 to a 2.13) and more than 2.6 million viewers overall (4.8 million to 7.5 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"Dateline NBC" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) ranked #2 in the slot among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures. "Dateline" grew +25% from its first half-hour to its fourth in both adults 18-49 (0.8 to 1.0) and adults 25-54 (1.2 to 1.5). L+3: The prior week's Friday "Dateline" grew in L+3 vs. L+SD by +21% in 18-49 rating (1.12 to 1.36) and in total viewers by 929,000 persons (5.7 million to 6.7 million). L+7: Friday's "Dateline" is increasing by an average of +25% in 18-49 rating (from a 1.19 to a 1.49) and 938,000 viewers overall (6.0 million to 6.9 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

Saturday

An encore telecast of "The Voice" (0.4/2 in 18-49, 1.9 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) grew +33% or 0.1 of a point versus last week's rebroadcast in this same time period (0.4 vs. 0.3). In the time period, the "Voice" encore tied for #2 among the Big 4 nets in adults 18-49.

"SNL Vintage" (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.2 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET with an encore of a Jan. 11, 1997 telecast hosted by Kevin Spacey with musical guest Beck) equaled its highest 18-49 rating since March 14 (0.8, a span covering four telecasts).

Sunday

"Dateline NBC" (1.0/4 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall from 7-9 p.m. ET) grew by +25% week to week in adults 18-49 (1.0 vs. 0.8 for the prior week's 8:03-9 p.m. telecast), by +50% in adults 25-54 (1.5 vs. 1.0) and by +53% or 2.0 million persons in total viewers (5.8 million vs. 3.8 million). "Dateline NBC" hit three-week highs for a Sunday edition in adults 18-49 and total viewers (best since April 26, 1.1 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) and delivered its #2 total-viewer result since Jan. 15 (6.7 million), trailing over that span only the April 26 edition. From its first half-hour to its fourth, "Dateline NBC" grew +50% in adults 18-49 (0.8 to 1.2) and adults 25-54 (1.2 to 1.8).

"A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" (0.8/2 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall from 9-10:01 p.m. ET) grew +6% week to week in total viewers (4.8 million vs.4.5 million) and +8% in women 25-54 (1.4 rating vs. 1.3). L+3: The previous week's "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +14% in 18-49 rating (0.91 to 1.04) and in total viewers by 494,000 persons (4.5 million to 5.0 million). L+7: "A.D. THE BIBLE Continues" has grown by +21% in 18-49 (from a 1.48 rating to a 1.79) and 1.3 million viewers overall (7.0 million to 8.3 million) going from L+SD to L+7.

"American Odyssey" (0.4/1 in 18-49, 2.6 million viewers overall from 10:01-11 p.m. ET) equaled its week-earlier rating in men 18-49 (0.4), adults 18-34 (0.2), women 25-54 (0.8) and men 25-54 (0.5). L+3: The prior week's "American Odyssey" increased in L+3 vs. L+SD by +20% in 18-49 rating (0.49 to 0.59) and in total viewers by 639,000 persons (2.7 million to 3.3 million). L+7: "American Odyssey" is increasing by an average +26% in 18-49 rating (from a 0.69 to a 0.87) and more than 1.2 million viewers overall (3.7 million to 4.9 million) going from L+SD to L+7.
