NBC Sports' Coverage of USA SEVENS RUGBY LAS VEGAS Begins Today

NBC Sports Group and Universal Sports Network will deliver more than 15 hours of the 2014 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament from Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev. Coverage begins tonight, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. ET on Universal Sports, and will continue through the weekend on NBC, NBCSN and Universal Sports. The broadcast presentation of the Las Vegas tournament will feature exclusive live coverage of full matches, as well as highlights from the three-day event.

One of the premier Rugby Sevens events in the world, the USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament is the fourth of nine stops on the2013-14 HSBC Sevens World Series, and is the largest Rugby tournament in North America. The tournament will feature the USA Eagles and 15 other national teams competing to gain points in the Sevens World Series standings.

Played on the same size field as traditional 15-player rugby, sevens rugby is played with just seven players per team. Matches have seven minute halves, with two minute intervals for pool and knock-out matches.

Veteran play-by-play announcer Todd Harris will call the matches for NBC and NBCSN. Harris will be joined in the booth by former USA Sevens captain and USA Rugby World Cup participant Brian Hightower. Marty Snider will report from the sidelines.

NBC Sports Group is the domestic television home of the HSBC Sevens World Series tour. In 2014, NBC, NBCSN and Universal Sports will combine to televise more than 18 hours of HSBC Rugby Sevens coverage from New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Scotland, England and the United States.

COLLEGIATE RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP & VARSITY RUGBY CUP

The NBC Sports Group is also the exclusive home of the Collegiate Rugby Championship and Varsity Rugby Cup. NBC and NBCSN will telecast seven hours of collegiate Rugby Sevens action from the Collegiate Rugby Sevens Championships in Philadelphia, Pa., on May 31-June 1. NBCSN will broadcast 2 hours of live coverage of the championship match of the college 15s championship. Both the Collegiate Rugby Championship and Varsity Rugby Cup are joint collaborations between the NBC Sports Group and United World Sports LLC. The tournaments feature the top college rugby teams in the nation including Notre Dame, Texas, Cal and UCLA.
