Classic EMPIRE headlines the field for the 149th BELMONT STAKES this Saturday, June 10, at 5 p.m. ET on NBC. Coverage from Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., begins Friday, June 9, at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN. In addition, NBCSN will present the Belmont Prep on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.

The Belmont STAKES is referred to as the "Test of the Champion" for its 1.5-mile distance, longest of the three Triple Crown races. Highlights of NBC Sports Group's Belmont coverage include:

  • A feature on Epicharis, making his U.S. debut in the Belmont Stakes. He won his first four races in Japan before finishing second in the UAE Derby in Dubai in March;
  • A look at Classic Empire, still considered by many to be the top three-year-old in the country, despite defeats in both the KENTUCKY DERBY (fourth) and Preakness (second);
  • A feature on Patch, the one-eyed horse that was a fan favorite in the Kentucky Derby, now returning in the Belmont.
