NBC Sports will present Racing Roots: featuring Martin Truex Jr., a 30-minute special chronicling 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion Martin Truex Jr.'s road to professional racing, this Saturday, August 4, at 5:30 p.m. ET on NBC. RACING ROOTS will air immediately following NBC Sports' coverage of Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity Series race from Watkins Glen International.
Hosted by NASCAR on NBC's resident automobile aficionado Rutledge Wood,Racing Roots provides an in-depth look at Truex Jr.'s life and road to becoming a champion. In addition, the feature shines a spotlight on how Truex Jr's. father, successful clam fishing entrepreneur and former Busch North Series driverMartin Truex Sr., instilled a passion for racing in his son and helped him transition from THE FAMILY business.
The driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota brings Wood back to his hometown of Mayetta, N.J., the race team's headquarters in Colorado, and his current home in North Carolina with partner Sherry Pollex.
Through interviews with Truex Jr.'s parents, former coaches, and friends, RACING ROOTS reveals the foundation that the 2017 Cup Series Champion is built upon. Both Truex Jr. and Pollex share their journey which led them to create the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation for cancer research, and its major charitable event "Catwalk for a Cause."
