INDYCAR HONDA INDY TORONTO - SUNDAY AT 3:30 P.M. ET ON NBCSN
The Verizon INDYCAR SERIES makes its annual visit north of the border to Toronto this weekend, coming off the heels of a victory by a Canadian in Iowa last weekend. James Hinchcliffe (Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) took the checkered flag following a caution on Lap 295 of 300 to earn his first win since the 2017 Long Beach Grand Prix and the sixth win of his INDYCAR career. The Honda Indy Toronto serves as a home race for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports - Hinchcliffe hails from nearby Oakville, Ont., rookie teammate Robert Wickens is a native of Guelph, Ont., and many of the team principals are Canadian.
Four-time series champion Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) currently leads all drivers in the championship standings, and holds a 33-point lead over defending series champion Josef Newgarden (Team Penske). Dixon boasts five podiums in his last seven races, including victories at Texas and Detroit. His first and only victory at Toronto came in 2014. Newgarden, who finished fourth at Iowa on Sunday, won the Honda Indy Toronto in 2015 and 2017.
Coverage from Toronto begins Saturday at 5 p.m. ET on NBCSN with qualifying, prior to pre-race coverage with INDYCAR Live Presented by Verizon on Sunday at 3 p.m. Pre-race coverage will be highlighted by INDYCAR on NBC analyst Paul Tracy's interview with Hinchcliffe and Wickens. Tracy grew up in nearby West Hill, Ont., and was a two-time winner in Toronto (1993 and 2003).
