NBC Sports kicks off its 27th season of NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL on NBC this Saturday, September 2, when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the Temple Owls at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush makes his first career start on Saturday, as head coach Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish play their first game at newly-renovated Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend. Notre Dame is 106-17-5 all-time in season openers.
Temple's Geoff Collins makes his head coaching debut this weekend as the Owls come off consecutive 10-4 seasons, giving them the most wins in a two-year span in school history. Collins has yet to name a starting quarterback and has stated he expects multiple players to take snaps under center against the Irish, including redshirt junior Frank Nutile and redshirt sophomore Logan Marchi. This marks the third time in five seasons that Notre Dame and Temple have squared off. In 2015, QB DeShone Kizer and the Fighting Irish defeated Temple 24-20 in Philadelphia. The Owls made their first-ever visit to South Bend to open the 2013 season, when QB Tommy Rees threw for 346 yards, a Notre Dame record in a season opener, en route to a 28-6 Fighting Irish victory.2017 NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL ON NBC
