The NBC Owned Television Stations has announced a comprehensive plan to cover the 2012 London Olympic Games. All 10 owned stations will send local journalists to cover the Olympics live from London during the 19 days of competition. The stations will dispatch more than 25 reporters, editors, producers and photographers, more than twice as many that covered the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Among the highlights of the NBC Owned Television Stations’ coverage:

– Live reports during morning, afternoon and late newscasts from London. Reporters and anchors from each station will be in London focusing on local athletes and the stories important to viewers in their markets.

– The Olympic Zone, a 30-minute daily show covering all aspects of the Olympics will air on 75% of NBC owned stations and affiliates across the country. Elements of the show, produced by the NBC Owned Television Stations, will be fed out daily from London and anchored by on-air talent from each station. The show will air Monday through Saturday during both weeks and will feature athlete profiles, competition recaps, and other stories of interest to Olympics viewers. Some stories from The Olympic Zone will also air on Comcast Regional Sports Networks.

– Each station’s website and mobile apps feature a special section devoted to the Olympics. The sections, which are already live, include local athlete profiles and interviews, 24/7 coverage of the biggest events, exclusive videos, in-depth analysis and a blog highlighting the most buzzed about Olympics stories of the moment.

– Each station will send custom Olympics newsletters to those who sign up to receive them. The newsletters will deliver the latest news about local athletes as they chase history, the day’s biggest headlines, photos and videos of the most breathtaking performances, and updated medal counts.

– On the social medial front, special Facebook tabs highlighting the comprehensive local coverage are live on each station’s main Facebook account, local reporters will be tweeting, and embeddable widgets spotlighting the latest local coverage are available to news partners.

– Station partners will also benefit from the large presence of local reporters and anchors in London. Some will call in to local radio stations while others will blog and write articles for local websites and newspapers.
