NBC News will be combining its communications, marketing and promotion arms into one department, NBC News Marketing and Communications. The announcement was made today by Steve Capus, President, NBC News. Lauren Kapp, most recently VP NBC News Communications, is being promoted to SVP, Marketing and Communications to oversee the new unit. In this newly created role, Kapp will be given the additional responsibilities of overseeing NBC News marketing, promotion, and brand strategy.

We are constantly looking at how we do things, how we can make our practices better and how we can stay ahead of the pack to maintain our leadership positions," said Capus. "This move is about adapting to the current media landscape, its about doing things smarter and putting a forward thinking leader who has her finger on the pulse of this news division in charge of a tremendously talented team to further grow and evolve.”
Kapp has been the lead communicator for NBC News and chief spokesperson for Capus since August 2009. She oversees the nation’s number-one news division’s communications strategy. This includes its executives and its programming, including “Today,” “Nightly News with BrIan Williams,” “Dateline” and “Meet the Press.” She also manages the division’s internal communications, and oversees corporate philanthropy programs.
Kapp has served in the NBC News press department since October 2002. She managed the communications for NBC News’ “Today” from October 2002 until July 2007, serving as chief spokesperson for the show and as the primary publicist for its anchors and correspondents. From that she moved to Senior Director, managing the press and publicity for “Nightly News with BrIan Williams,” and NBC News specials.
In the course of her tenure at NBC News, Kapp has executed the public relations strategies surrounding several high profile news programs, breaking news events and the widely reported transition from Katie Couric to Meredith Vieira at “Today.”
Prior to joining the network, Kapp worked in the ABC News press department from April 2000 through October 2002, where she earned a Peabody Award as a member of the team who was honored with the prestigious award for the network’s coverage of September 11, 2001. Before that she worked in Washington D.C. for Marina Ein Public Relations.
Kapp graduated from the University of Arizona with a major in Communications. She resides in Brooklyn with her husband and two sons.
