Meredith Ahr has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Alternative Programming & Development, NBC and Universal Media Studios. The announcement was made today by Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, NBC and Universal Media Studios.
"Meredith is a passionate, laser-focused creative executive," said Telegdy. "She is the producer's ultimate ally at the network, blending big-picture marketing instincts with a real feel for storytelling. Simply put, she makes shows better and with that in mind, it is fitting that she moves up into a more senior role in shaping the department's creative future. Her promotion is testament to her track record and impact in programming."
Ahr will be responsible for NBC's alternative development, both in-house and from NBC's partnerships in the creative community. She will also work across the company's existing brands to ensure that evolution and ingenuity will continue.
Ahr, who will report to Telegdy, previously served as Vice President, Alternative Programming & Development since October 2007, during which time she successfully developed and managed some of the division's biggest assets, including the hit series "America's Got Talent," "The Celebrity Apprentice," "The Marriage Ref," "Who Do You Think You Are?" and the upcoming rebirth of the civilian version of "The Apprentice."
Ahr started in the Alternative Department as a member of the prestigious Entertainment Associates Program in 2005; having been at the company for four years prior to that in various positions in New York, including assistant to then NBC Universal Chairman,
Bob Wright.
Ahr first joined NBC in 2001 as a Page in New York, which allowed her to work as a Production Assistant in the WNBC Creative Services department.
Later, Ahr transitioned to an Assistant role in The NBC Agency in New York. There, she was promoted to Manager of Strategic Partnerships, developing and overseeing many key business and promotional partnerships for the News division.
Ahr is a graduate of Boston College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
