Miss Christina Aguilara is back as the pop singer superstar Jade- desperately trying to record a country album, and hoping to use Luke Wheeler and her powers of persuasion to do so. Rayna's family is as adorable as ever- singing together and *trying* to live as happily as possible, despite Deacon's obviously deteriorating health.

Avery is home taking care of his daughter while Juliette gallavants around town planning appearances, recording albums, and doing god-knows-what-else. Resent- or a blow out fight- is just around the corner.

Will and Kyle Dean Massey (what is his character's name?!) have spent three happy, blissful days in bed together. My, how the tables have turned around here. It's refreshing to see Will at ease for once- no matter how temporary it may or may not be.

Rayna and Teddy are on civil terms, Juliette is back in the spotlight, and Deacon has found a liver donor. And fo a short time, all is wonderful in NASHVILLE. And then the opening credits roll- and thinks show no sign of slowing down. Deacon goes from getting the unexpected phone call to getting prepped for surgery- with Rayna and Maddie (and Scarlett) in tow, leaving Daphne with Teddy, who is more upset that she won't be singing with her mom and sister.

Deacon- in the hospital surrounded by a laughing Rayna, Maddie, and Scarlett- faces the news that he is running a 100.5 degree fever. Should the fever continue or he develops a case of pnemonia, he could reject the liver. Running the risk of not having the surgery, a tearful and near hysterical Scarlett begs her doctor-boyfriend Dr. Rand to make an exception and perform the surgery anyway. In a very painful moment to watch, he sticks to his (rightful) grounds in saying that if Deacon isn't fit for surgery, the liver will go to the next recepient.

In a very aww-inducing moment, Luke invites Miss Daphne Conrad up on stage to sing with him. It is one of the most precious things I've ever seen, and shows a side of Luke I doubted still existed after the entire wedding debacle. Following in another aww-inducing moment; Avery surprises (bitchy but back to her old self we know and... sort of love) Juliette- who is now newfound enemies with Jade St. John. Lovely.

Deacon is cleared for surgery, to the gigantic relief of Scarlett and, honestly, everyone watching. The blow up fight between Avery and Juliette I predicted earlier comes to fruitition after a jealous and angry Juliette lashes out at Jade in front of the entire benefit. Avery calls Juliette selfish and out of line- and he's right.

Deafeated and down, Jade St. John plays the Bluebird Cafe to an eager audience that includes new number one supporter Luke Wheeler. Deacon goes under for surgery, Juliette and Avery makeup, but Will's happiness- as predicted- doesn't last. Kyle Dean Massey, very much attached to his "not a date" date, leaves the party with him, leaving behind a solemn and once again, alone, Will Lexington. In an act of bravery, romance, and completely out of character, Will confronts him on his doorstep and asks him to be exclusive. It goes from pretty sad to pretty adorably romantic pretty quickly.

But even Will's momentary depression that isn't as sad- or terrifying- as the words Dr. Rand utters to Rayna and Scarlett, "We have a problem." right before the final commercial break. Damn you and your cliffhangers, NASHVILLE writers.

The patient in Columbus' lungs had cancer cells on them, making his liver unfit for Deacon. Slowly coming to after not recieved surgery, we're left with sunken hearts and bated breath as Rayna tries to stay positive. Her momentary lapse of hope in the chapel is heartbreaking, but not quite as heartbreaking as Maddie asking Deacon if he thinks he will die.

In a move that everyone saw coming, Jade St. John leads Luke Wheeler into her hotel room, after sharing a somewhat creepy kiss in the hallway. I am not a fan of these two together. Nor am I a fan of Layla and Jeff. Ever.

What do you think the future has in store for Jade? Is she a country star waiting to happen, a temporary fling for Luke, or something else? What do you think of Christina? Let me know in the comments or at @WendiReichstein!
