The hit Broadway show the Mulatto Saga starring Juliette Fairley is set to become a feature film with a promo on its way to the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in search of backers.
“It’s very exciting to watch the film develop with characters and a script that I elaborated on in my imagination after experiences in my life,” said Fairley, who will play a lead role in the film, which is about the affect of an interracialcouple’s romantic relationship on their biracial daughter’s attempt to marry.
In flashback scenes, six-year-old newcomer Cassidy Knight portrays Fairley as a youngster while GaryFletcher and Sara Visser play her interracial parents. Kaylee Souther guest stars as a snippy wedding plannerand Patrick Shane co-stars as Fairley's white boyfriend whose parents do not approving of their engagement. The 10 minute teaser was directed my Spike Lee protege Michael Pinckney and produced by Keith Goggin while David Bain worked as first assistant director.
“Now is the time for this film to launch. It is international in nature, portrays the essence of American politics and provides the world an opportunity to see the very talented Afro-French actress Juliette Fairley speak French,” said Pinckney who is an assistant director to Spike Lee on film and tv projects such as HBO’s tv pilot Da Brick and Red Hook Summer, a 40 Acres and a Mule film that will premiere at Sundance on January 22.
