ESPN showed there is a method to the madness of the ESPN Fantasy Football Marathon presented by DraftKings, as the 28-hour event spurred more than 2 million teams drafted on ESPN Fantasy Football, the industry's No. 1 fantasy football game. The final tally was 2,054,076, beating the total from last year's first-ever Fantasy Football Marathon by more than 300,000.
The Fantasy Football Marathon, which began Monday at 7 p.m. ET and concluded Tuesday night at 11 p.m. ET, featured
ESPN Fantasy Football specials in primetime, segments on multiple editions of SportsCenter, and Fantasy Football-themed editions of popular
ESPN shows, including First Take, Jalen & Jacoby, Mike & Mike, NFL Live, OTL and SportsNation. The 28 hours also included a special live TV edition of the
ESPN Fantasy Focus Football podcast, the
ESPN "Fantasy Island", a Celebrity Fantasy Draft and special editions of Mock Draft Mondays.
On the heels of the Marathon, today's television premiere of The Fantasy Show hosted by Emmy Award-winning
ESPN fantasy analyst Matthew Berry is at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN. Embracing the fun spirit of fantasy sports, Berry and his unconventional cast of characters aim to make fantasy football players smarter and help them win their leagues with a mix of news and analysis, as well as special guests and segments, all presented with Berry's smart, irreverent style. Following its premiere on ESPN, The Fantasy Show will air every weekday at 5 p.m. ET on
ESPN2 and on the
ESPN App across mobile and OTT devices.
"The scale of something like the Fantasy Football Marathon is always a challenge, but all the work and effort we put into it pays off for us and our fans," said Norby Williamson,
ESPN Executive Vice President, Production. "The Marathon is a great example of
ESPN creating experiences for fans across multiple platforms in a fun and different way, and we're looking forward to continuing that energy and fun throughout the season with Matthew's new show and all of our other Fantasy content."
The Fantasy Football Marathon is part of an expansion of programming on all
ESPN platforms for the 2017
ESPN Fantasy Football season.
