On last night's ABC's WORLD NEWS TONIGHT, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told Diane Sawyer that he has been invited to appear on NBC's sketch comedy 'Saturday Night Live'.
Said Romney about the invitation, "I haven't made a decision on that; just heard about it. Of course, it would depend on the nature of the skit. I want it to be funny." The interview was broadcast last night on World News Tonight and Nightline. SNL executive producer Lorne Michaels invited Romney to appear on an episode of the show over the weekend.
The candidate is often mocked on SNL for his stiff and serious demeanor. Romney good naturedly admitted that he sets his DVR to tape Jason Sudeikis' portrayal of him. He told Sawyer that the comedian's impression was "very good."
Romney has poked fun at himself before, reciting the Top Ten list on CBS' Late Night With David Letterman in December. He recently visited NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in March. The Republican front-runner would not be the first White House occupant or contender to appear on the long-running comedy show. He would join such politicians as Gerald Ford, Barack Obama, John McCain, Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin.
