Deadline writes that actress and singer Minnie Driver will star opposite Steven Weber in CBS's comedy pilot HAPPY LIFE (formerly titled JOE TIME).
Directed by James Burrows, HAPPY LIFE follows "Joe (Weber), a family man who struggles with the fact that everyone around him is pursuing their dreams and enjoying their lives more than he is. He's starting to wonder if he'll ever be able to follow his own desires, whatever that may be."
Rita Moreno will play 'Judy', Joe's mom, who is "in love with her husband Mitch, and also preoccupied with physical fitness and her amazing personal trainer." Also in the cast are Alli Kinzel as 'Lucy', Joe's oldest daughter "who works with him in the family construction business, and Noland Ammon as 'Andrew', Joe's son and youngest child, described as "a piano player who thinks it's cool to accompany his grandfather during his cabaret performance." Duane Martin and Eric Petersen also appear.
Driver will play 'Maggie', described as "a former DOCTOR WHO left behind that grind to embark on a new career teaching people 'mindful meditation' out of her home studio. She's happily married to Joe (Weber) and is the mother of Lucy and Andrew."
The actress has signed on for a guest role in the HAPPY LIFE pilot, with a series regular option in case NBC's ABOUT A BOY, in which she currently stars, isn't renewed.
Aside from ABOUT A BOY, Driver's TV credits include WEB THERAPY, THE DEEP, THE RICHES, REVISIONED: TOMB RAIDER, WILL & GRACE and more. She recently appeared on the big screen in the musical comedy horror flick STAGE FRIGHT, as well as BEYOND THE LIGHTS, and as the narrator/grown-up Wendy on NBC's PETER PAN LIVE!
