As part of Lifetime and A+E Networks' Emmy Award-winning public affairs and community outreach efforts, Women of Honor, featuring appearances by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will inspire and activate viewers with stories about remarkable members of the military community. The one-hour Veterans Day tribute premieres Monday, November 9 at 8pm ET/PT and showcases the emotional and uplifting journeys of three women, representing the thousands of veterans, spouses, caregivers and countless others who have given so much for our country and continue to do so every day. The special will also air November 10 at 6pm (CET/JKT) on AFN|spectrum for our U.S. forces, DoD civilians and their families stationed or deployed overseas and aboard U.S. Navy ships.
"Jill and I are really excited about this conversation and we're excited that Lifetime is putting the spotlight on these amazing women," said First Lady Michelle Obama.
"It is an honor and a privilege to work with the First Lady and Dr. Biden to make this important program about the strength, courage and sacrifices made on behalf of men and women in uniform and their families. Our hope is that these stories will mobilize all of us to find ways to serve them, just as they have served us and this great nation," stated Nancy Dubuc, President and CEO of A+E Networks.
Women of Honor features the following heroes and showcases their discussion with First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Biden about Joining Forces, a White House initiative dedicated to ensuring that service members, veterans, and their families have the tools they need to succeed throughout their lives:
Rolona Brown: Originally from High Point South Carolina, Rolona enlisted in the army when she was 18 years old. During her distinguished career, she travelled the world from Germany to Korea with countless foreign posts. After taking time off from military service to raise her son, Rolona reenlisted in the army in 2002 and served in Iraq. One of the proudest days of her life was when she was commissioned an officer. She is now a company commander at Fort Lee, Virginia.
Kathleen Causey: In 2011, as Kathleen prepared to finish her college degree, her husband Aaron was catastrophically injured while attempting to disarm a bomb in Afghanistan. Leaving him as a double-above-knee amputee and with multiple injuries to his hands and arms, her life and marriage changed in an instant. While Aaron spent the next two years recovering, Kathleen found the courage to share her experience as a young caregiver spouse with others.
Jennifer Madden: Jenn enlisted in the military when she was just 17 year old. On her first day of basic training on September 11, 2001, a drill sergeant told her class that they would be going to war. Three weeks into her deployment to Afghanistan, one of her best friends was killed and the base was later attacked. She saw the horrors of war up close and the images stayed with her long after she returned home in 2003. Feeling isolated from society, Jenn experienced post-traumatic stress and began self-medicating with drugs to cope. Eventually Jenn found help and slowly worked to build the successful life she has today as a licensed nurse practitioner and mother.
Women of Honor is produced by Left/Right. Executive producers include Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver and Anneka Jones. Co-EP/Director is Mary Robertson. Eli Lehrer, Mary Donahue, Danielle Carrig and Sarah Thompson of Lifetime also executive produce.
