TELEMUNDO confirmed today it has signed an exclusive contract with acclaimed Mexican actress and singer Mariana Seoane. Her first project with the network will be the Super Series "El Chema," playing the role of Mabel Castaño, an ambitious, jealous, heartless and cruel woman. "El Chema" is set to begin filming this fall.

"I feel honored to join the Telemundo family and look forward to working on many projects with the network," Mariana Seoane said. "TELEMUNDO has become a leading platform of stories like the Super Series that tell real and powerful stories, and I'm proud to be a part of this upcoming production."

"Mariana Seoane is one of the best-known and most talented artists in Hispanic television," said Luis Silberwasser, President of Telemundo Network and NBC UNIVERSO cable channel. "Her arrival to Telemundo is one more sign of our commitment to continue offering viewers top-quality productions featuring some of the best talent in the industry."

Mariana Seoane was born in Mexico City to an Argentine mother and Cuban-Mexican father. She began acting and singing professionally as a teenager, making her debut in 1995 in "Retrato de Familia." She went on to appear in the telenovelas "Cancion de Amor" (1996) and "Pequeña Traviesa" (1997), landing her first starring role in "Amor Gitano" (1999) alongside Mauricio Islas. She followed this up with "Rebeca" (2003) and was invited to act with Jaime Camil in the famous TELENOVELA "La Fea Mas Bella" in 2006. She played her first villain the following year in Juan Osorio's "Tormenta en el Paraiso" (2007) and continued in the role of the antagonist in "Por Ella Soy Eva" (2012), "La Tempestad" (2013) and "Hasta el Fin del Mundo" (2014).

Parallel to her acting career, Seoane has built a solid music career, releasing six albums. Her first record, "Sere Una Niña Buena" (2004), included two Billboard top 10 singles, earning her a Premio Lo Nuestro as "Best New Artist" and Premios TV y Novelas award for "Release of the Year." Premios Furia Musical named Seoane its "Best New Artist" in 2004 and "Female Singer of the Year" in 2005, when she released her second album, "La Niña Buena." She followed with "Con Sabor A... Mariana" (2006), "Mariana está de fiesta...Atrévete!!!" (2007) and "Que No Me Faltes Tu y Muchos Exitos Mas" (2007). Her last release was "La malquerida" (2012).
