Meghan McCain is being considered by producers for one of the remaining co-host positions, a source exclusively tells E! News. Senator John McCain's daughter is currently under contract as the host of Take Part Live on Pivot, and has made several appearances on the longrunning ABC talk show.
McCain's rep could not be reached for comment, while
ABC isn't commenting on any rumored replacements for exiting hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy. "Any specific names at this point are rumor and speculation," an
ABC rep said. "There are no decisions and we are not ready to make any announcements."
A graduate of Columbia University, McCain, 29, is pretty liberal when it comes to social issues and has spoken out against some of the more traditionally conservative views of the Republican party (she's an advocate for gay marriage and is pro-life).
The question remaining now is whether or not Rosie O'Donnell will approve as sources tell us that the returning host (it's all but official) will have approval over any potential co-host that will join her and Whoopi Goldberg, the only returning host, at the table in Season 18.
Other names being considered for the job? Comedian and Sex and the City scene stealer Mario Cantone is reportedly in the running, while Sarah Palin has been vocal about her desire to join the show. "It'd be so much fun to
Shake It Up taking on issues that make audiences objectively consider all sides," she said.
