Meet Riley's Best Friend! GIRL MEETS WORLD Gets Its 'Shawn'

Riley Matthews' 'Shawn' as been unveiled!

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sabrina Carpenter has been cast as Maya Fox, the best friend of GIRL MEETS WORLD's central character Riley (Rowan Blanchard), daughter of Cory and Topanga.

Carpenter reportedly blew Disney execs away in the short-lived Disney XD pilot, GULLIVER QUINN, most recently landing her the lead role in Disney Junior's SOFIA THE FIRST.

Maya is officially described as "an only child and has never known her father, which makes her relationship with both Riley and Cory Matthews very important to her. She is a wonderful student of life and absolutely magnetic in attracting the people in her sphere. A little bit edgy, she is as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her."

Carpenter can next be seen alongside Scott Foley and Becki Newton in Fox's upcoming comedy THE GOODWIN GAMES.

GIRL MEETS WORLD will follow Riley, the teenage daughter of Cory and Topanga, picking up over a decade after the show concluded its run on ABC in 2000. At this time, no other stars from the original series are set to return, though both Ryder Strong and Trina McGee have expressed interest.

Production on the pilot is expected to begin next month, and should GIRL MEETS WORLD be picked up to series by the Disney Channel, it's expected that the prequel series would land on the 2013-2014 season.
