As Massage Heights, a family-owned membership-based massage franchise company that makes regular massage therapy convenient and affordable, prepares for pivotal growth, Chief Operating Officer Shane Evans decided to go undercover inside a few of the company's locations on CBS's "Undercover Boss" to discover key insights that would help her lead the company through the rapid expansion. She is set to appear on the hit reality series tonight, December 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT; 7:00-8:00 PM, CT).
During Evans' journey, she went undercover in four Massage Heights locations, which are called "Retreats," in four different cities around the country to examine what's really happening at the Retreat level and discover what the company can do to help elevate the lives of their employees and Guests. She performed four different jobs, including Retreat Director, Massage Therapist, Skin Therapist and Lifestyle Consultant. The eye-opening experience will not only leave a lasting impression on her personally, but will also affect the company as it prepares to open its 100 th location later this year.
"This experience was incredible, and I was humbled to work alongside some of our Team Members," said Evans. "Massage Heights strives to ensure our employees are happy and that they enjoy their job not just for the success of the business but because our family believes that people must love their job to be truly happy and healthy. This experience is going to help us do that."
Massage Heights strives to retain employees and become the employer of choice in the massage industry, and based on her findings, Evans and the corporate team hope to make some changes as to how the business is operated on the Retreat level in order to ensure employees throughout the franchise system are happy. The list of actions in consideration includes revising pay structure, ensuring that advanced education and training opportunities are well executed system-wide, and finding ways to better communicate and simplify the daily operations standards. Additionally, Massage Heights is launching the Heights Family Fund, a non-profit organization that will help employees in Crisis situations by allowing them to apply for emergency relief.
Evans joins the ranks of other C-level executives who have appeared on "Undercover Boss" from companies such as Cinnabon, 7-Eleven, NASCAR, 1-800-Flowers and DirecTV, and she is the first massage franchise executive to appear on the show.
Massage Heights offers a variety of custom massage therapy, including Deep Tissue, Swedish, Sports Therapy, Prenatal and Reflexology, as well as custom dermalogica skin treatments, including Anti-Aging, Sensitive Skin, Clear Skin and Brightening. Therapeutic experience-enhancing add-on services called "Elevations" include a Reviving Foot Scrub, Revitalizing Face Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, Active Therapy and all-natural aromatherapy. Medical research proves a dedicated program of massage can help fight off disease and depression, boost immunity, relieve pain, improve athletic performance, increase alertness and improve sleep quality. Many health-conscience consumers do not consider massage to be self-indulgent but rather a vital and invaluable part of their overall wellness program. Massage Heights employs licensed, registered and certified massage and skin therapists who are trained to provide a variety of therapeutic massage and facial treatments that are customized to address the individual needs of their Member and Non-member Guests.
