Marlee Matlin to Guest Star on ABC Family's SWITCHED AT BIRTH, 1/17

On the January 17th episode of ABC Family's SWITCHED AT BIRTH, Academy Award winning actress Marlee Matlin and TV star Gilles Marini make guest star appearances. In the episode entitled 'Self Portrait with a Bandaged Ear', Bay is once again not in Melody's (Matlin) good graces after Emmett gets into trouble and Melody blames his relationship with Bay on the situation. Daphne is overall frustrated with her basketball coach who won't let her play, and her frustration extends to her relationship with Angelo (Marini) who she finally confronts to discuss why he really left. Meanwhile, Kathryn and John learn some disheartening news about their lawyer that might ruin their entire case. And, Angelo makes Regina a business offer she can't refuse.

The episode airs on a new day and time, Tuesdays at 8:00PM-9:00PM ET/PT.  The new season premiere will air on Tuesday, January 3rd.  

On the new season of SWITCHED AT BIRTH, the families must deal with the arrival of Bay's biological father Angelo (Gilles Marini), inflaming old passions and creating new rivalries. All in all, everyone struggles to navigate family dynamics that seem to be getting more, not less, complicated. The series uses American Sign Language and explores deaf culture with an array of deaf and hard of hearing actors.

The series was named the recipient of AFTRA's (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) 2011 American Scene "Crystal" Award®" - the top individual television program honoree in this year's competition -- "for its groundbreaking and seamless inclusion of performers with disabilities, storylines that showcase new assistive technologies, and ethnic diversity." Most recently, Executive Producer Paul Stupin was awarded the 2011 Producers Guild of America George Sunga Award by the Media Access Awards.
