Deadline reports that Marisa Tomei will portray femist activist and Ms. Magazine founder Gloria Steinem in an upcoming HBO miniseries.

The project will be titled MS and will tell the story of the publication's founding in 1971. Kathy Najimy also joins the cast in the role of Steinem's best friend, U.S. Rep. Bella Abzug. The miniseries is being executive-produced by George Clooney, Grant Heslov and Bruce Cohen, along with Tomei and Najimy. 80-year-old Gloria Steinem will serve as a consultant on the project.

Tomei recently inked a first-look development deal with the cable network in which she will develop, produce and potentially star in projects.

Last Spring, Tomei starred in Will Eno's The Realistic Joneses on Broadway alongide Toni Collette, Michael C. Hall and Tracy Letts.
