According to Deadline, stage and screen star Marisa Tomei has been tapped to portray feminist legend Gloria Steinem in HBO's upcoming miniseries MS.

The project follows up HBO's 2011 documentary GLORIA - IN HER OWN WORDS by chronicling "the creation of Ms. Magazine in 1971 through the eyes of the two women who founded and ran it -- Steinem (Tomei) and Bella Abzug (Kathy Najimy) -- and those whose lives it changed during the world-altering early days of the Women's Movement."
George Clooney is producing with Grant Heslov and Bruce Cohen, along with Tomei and Najimy. Steinem is on board as a consultant.
Tomei last appeared on Broadway in The Realistic Joneses, for which she won a 2014 Drama Desk Award. Before that, she starred onstage in Top Girls, Salome and Wait Until Dark. The actress will soon be seen on the big screen in Spare Parts, The Rewrite and Love, The Coopers. Among her recent film credits are Love Is Strange, Crazy, Stupid, Love., The Wrestler and more.
Najimy last appeared on Broadway in Dirty Blonde. She also wrote and starred in three "Kathy & Mo" plays, which ran off-Broadway beginning in the late '80s. The actress well known for her screen roles as 'Sister Mary Patrick' in Sister Act, THE VOICE of 'Peggy Hill' on King of the Hill, and as 'Olive Massery' in the TV series Veronica's Closet. Many fans will recognize her as one of the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus. Among her recent small screen credits are Desperate Housewives, Franklin & Bash, The Big C and Veep, and she will soon appear in the TV movie Descendants.
