The musical comedy Gentleman Prefer Blondes is featured in the abbreviated June lineup on Reel 13. Adapted from the hit 1949 Broadway musical, which made Carol Channing a star, the film version offered Monroe a star vehicle for the "dumb blonde" persona that launched the mid-50's mania around her. Monroe's pink dress and performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" are perhaps the most iconic movie sequence of her entire career.
Leading Ladies is the month's independent offering. The series is pre-empted for special pledge programming on June 4, 11 and 18.
Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Hollywood Classic followed by an Indie, presented by Columbia University professor Richard Peña. The evening concludes with a Short film selected by viewers who vote for their favorite of three shorts at Reel13.org.
