Marcia Gay Harden Reassigned to Lead in Upcoming CBS Medical Pilot CODE BLACK

Tony and Oscar winning actress Marcia Gay Harden has been re-cast in CBS' upcoming medical pilot CODE BLACK.

BroadwayWorld previously reported that Harden would be playing the role of Christa, but CBS has just announcd that the actress has been reassigned to the lead, Leanne. Bonnie Somerville will take over as Christa.

Residency director Leanne is a strong, driven individual described as a "force to be reckoned with."

CODE BLACK "is set in the busiest and most notorious ER in the nation - LA County Hospital - where the extraordinary staff confronts a broken system in order to protect their ideals and the patients who need them the most."

Christa is "a former soccer mom whose son died of cancer. She is now a newly minted, talented and dedicated doctor whose experience handling her son's disease, coupled with her intuition and life experience, makes her see things that often escape her much younger fellow residents."

INTELLIGENCE's Michael Seitzman penned the pilot, which David Semel will direct.

In 1993, Harden debuted on Broadway in the role of Harper Pitt in Tony Kushner's ANGELS IN AMERICA. The role earned her critical acclaim and she received a Tony Award nomination (Best Featured Actress in a Play).

In 2009, Harden returned to Broadway in GOD OF CARNAGE and received a Tony Award for her work in the play. Harden's work in film includes MYSTIC RIVER, POLLOCK, and INTO THE WILD. She's also appeared on innumerous television shows, including LAW & ORDER: SVU, DAMAGES, and ROYAL PAINS. She can currently be seen on ABC's freshman comedy TROPHY WIFE.
