Malkovich, Lane to Star in Disney's 'Secretariat'

John Malkovich will star alongside Diane Lane in the Disney movie, "Secretariat," directed by Randall Wallace. Details regarding filming and a release have yet to be announced.

In this film about the horse that won the 1973 Triple Crown, Malkovich will play Lucien Laurin, the horse's jockey and trainer.  The film centers around Laurin and his relationship with the horse's owner, Penny Chenery played by Diane Lane, who runs the farm that produced the prize-winning stallion.   The film will be directed by Randall Wallace, with a screenplay by Mike Rich. Mayhem partners Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray are producing.

Malkovich is a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and starred in the original production of TRUE WEST. He recently starred in the Broadway production of BURN THIS.  Additional Boradway credits include: THE CARETAKER, ARMS AND THE MAN, and DEATH OF A SALEMAN. He most recently starred in the Coen brothers-directed "Burn After Reading" and Clint Eastwood's "Changeling."

Lane made her screen debut in George Roy Hill's 1979 film "A Little Romance," starring opposite Laurence Olivier. Soon after, she was featured on the cover of Time Magazine. Her Broadway credits include: RUNAWAYS, THE CHERRY ORCHARD, and AGAMEMNON. Lane has had a movie career spanning across three decades and has appeared in several notable films, including "Unfaithful" in 2002, which earned her Academy Award, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Lane is also well known for her 2003 film "Under the Tuscan Sun."
